Sadly, I cannot recommend Poplar Place at this time.
The management:
First off, I do not believe that twenty-somethings possess the experience or maturity to manage such a large apartment community. Small issues are handled as if they were big ones....with official letters, threats, and a lack of face-to-face communication. The management sends out entirely too many notices. They acts as if they are renting out luxury apartments (in fact their literature advertises that the apartments are "luxury")leaving one to wonder if they have visited the apartments at Meadowmont of Southern Village recently' In reality, they are selling leases to apartments that have seen better days. The kitchens are outdated and the wood cabinets look like they belong in a double-wide out in Alamance Cty.
The grounds are kept immaculately, which I believe is a compensatory action on the mgmt's part: They are hoping that the lack of improvements to the apartments will go unnoticed if all the residents are dazzled by endless flower bed plantings and Brickman lawn mower passes. Having spoken to a number of neighbors we are all convinced that the recent "beautification" of the past year has become a bill that is due and is paid by us all in the form of higher rents this year. It is my opinion that unless they improve the apartments, they cannot justify an increase of any amount.
Remember Linus from the comic series Peanuts' Poplar Place has their own version of Linus in the form of the maintenance team. They track in an amazing amount of dirt & fingerprints when they come to work on whatever problem in your apartment. One is left having to clean after every maintenance visit. Another issue with maintenance...sometimes they need to be prodded into action. I've had outstanding maintenance requests for the better part of a year.
So, there you have it. None of this is personal against the management staff as they all seem like nice people. But perhaps Gentle Reader you may want to consider all of my points before signing a lease at this place.

I totally agree with this person. We are planning to move out of this Apartment complex by end of this year/by Jan "hopefully", and find a better place to live. I wish! if the management who worked with/for the Arch-stone 3 years back were here now things would be different. Right now things are OK kind of!!
Good luck to rest others who are planning in future to rent an apartment here. Hope you'll have a better management and better Amenities & Features by then. No offense to the present management since you all seem to be real good people, but as of now this is the real fact.

I could not have said it better than this person. I really hope Poplar Place Management reads these reviews and takes heed of what is said. Please spare us all the attempts to unite the community with pool parties, silly competitions - such as naming the color of green paint used on the buildings, and such. Put that money into upgrading our apartment homes. The kitchens are an embarrassment. The insect problem is also and these darn flourescent lights that they put up outside of each apartment attract MORE pests than I've ever seen. There's no option to put up an "anti-bug" light bulb. Also, as a senior citizen, I would appreciate it if these young girls who sit in the office all day would make themselves useful by bringing mail to those of us who have a hard time hoofing it up to the mailboxes. Also, I would like to ask what use is the club house if it is never open after the office staff leave? There's no security on the laundry room and I've seen a number of people come in there who don't live here and do laundry. The machines are a disgrace. The fitness room is a joke. All but one piece of equipment is working. There is no 24 hour fitness room that we are benefitting from.
I just pray to God that we get a responsible, mature, and truly caring management company to replace the one we have now. I would also like to see the maintenance woman who has been here forever leave. It seems her main role is spy on the residents and point out who is in violation of some rule so they can bilk more money out of them by charging them fines. Such a disgrace.

Update - It's been at least four weeks since the cardboard recycle bin has been emptied. AS I mentioned above it was overflowing a week ago. It's still the same except the pile of cardboard thrown next to it is now even bigger. It must be about 5 foot high and 25 foot wide now. That's how prompt the management are at taking care of problems. Maybe they should get the service guys to move it. They don't seem to be busy as theyare all gone by 4.30pm. Again I had to bring my cardboard back to my apartment because I didn't want to dump it in the road. Maybe I should drive to teh neighboring communities. They don't seem to have a garbage problem.
