Nice landscaping, noisy apartments

Take this review with a grain of salt; I have not lived in very many apartments so I don't know what the norm is. I lived in solid brick and concrete dorms all my time in undergrad and now that I'm in law school I'm living in apartments.
This is one of the less expensive places we found too live, and the location is fine, I bike to law school every day from here and it only takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to classes (not including shower time once I get to school). They also offered a flexible lease, which was a plus since my roomate and I are both in school and probably won't be around during the summer.
The apartment complex looks nice and the apartments are light and spacious inside; but BEWARE if you do not have a third floor apartment you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on the floor above. I thought it might have been our apartment or just that we have loud neighbors, but in talking with other residents it appears that this is common. I don't know if this is par for apartments, but I do know that there have been times where I have been deprived of my sleep because we keep normal hours and our upstairs neighbor seems to be nocturnal. And I don't know what wizard placed the stair case right next to the bedroom window, but result is that if neighbor and friends walk up or down the staircase you can hear every word and footstep, unfortunately for me during my sleeping hours.
The inside of the apartments themselves are not stunning, but they may just be their age showing. Older looking cabinetry and electric stove; but then again I got spoiled by the Raleigh apartment I lived in this summer which was recently built. Luxury this is not, but the apartment features themselves don't really impact my enjoyment of this place.
I can't attest to the management, they seem nice enough although if they try and pass this place as a quiet grad community take it with a grain of salt. Its not an undergrad party zone but I definitely minimize the time I spend here if I want to get work done. The only other interaction I've had with them is to e-mail a complaint about the noise; they sent a notice to my neighbor saying they got a noise complaint which is not how I wanted the issue addressed. They told me I could transfer apartments which gave me some relief, but they failed to mention the $300 transfer fee (for the first 8 months of a 12 month lease).
Bottom line: If you get a third floor apartment, or you have quiet neighbors above you, this would be a fine place to live in. But the construction issues and the noise issues put me on edge while I live here and I'm looking forward to finding a new place to live.

I totally agree with you. Since we have been bearing this noise issue from many years now, nothing has been done with it, even after several requests made to the management by my wife and I. All they did was send couple of notices and even till today we can still hear the same old heavy walking, placing the heavy things loudly, running etc... that too in the night, day time its fine we don't care, but during night time its ridiculous. We are planning to move out of here soon and find a nose proof apartments. And people who are living in the first floor or who has or will find one good luck to forget what/how sound sleep is or was.

I live on the top floor and I agree! I try to tread lightly but even I can hear people closing doors underneath me. My neighbor is even worse. I can hear the girl who lives there closing doors and walking around like an elephant in her apartment all the time. I don't know how the residents underneath can stand it.
Too late for these apartments now. There's very little can be done apart from adding thicker padded carpets and the management won't do that. It takes them all their time to do anything except write notices.
