Grad Students Beware

Since others have been positioning themselves, even though it is irrelevant, my husband and I are both graduate students at UNC. It does not take a graduate degree to figure out that this place absolutely sucks.
We were both very happy with this place until it was time to move out. I first discussed with them that we would be moving out 4 months ahead of time - they told me not to worry about it and just to keep them posted. I went back the next month and updated them, asking if I needed to give them written notice. Again, they assured me that I did not. This same vocal correspondance took place the next month as well. UNTIL - I gave them a date then all hell broke loose. My husband and I were both verbally berrated by the manager who acted as if WE were the ones that screwed up - we should have known that we needed to give written notice, even though we were assured FOUR times that "keeping them posted" was enough.
We overlooked a lot of things prior to this incident: the nosey groundskeeper, the "antique" kitchen and bathrooms, the small fitness area, the "recycled" parts that were used for replacements ( I swear the lightbulbs they replaced in my apartment were old, since they burnt out every few weeks).
