You can do better, Much better.

I lived here from 2003-2005.
I realize now that the saying is true--You get what you pay for.
What they do not tell you before moving in is that you are (for all intents and purposes) in the ghetto. There is constant riffraff and what not (mainly across the street, I believe) hanging around outside during the night. Oh, and I don't say this as some stuck up upper middle class, white person-I'm black and had rather meager beginnings myself.
But, you can spend a little bit more money and do a whole lot better than this place in virtually every respect.
I have been fortunate not to have too many problems here, except for that time someone decided they liked my car cd player better than I did, and stole it. Oh yeah, there is also the time, I recently saw a rat in my place, but I didn't care because I am soooooooo leaving at the end of this month.
The place is basicallly run by slumlords. The gym (and I use the term loosely) is shared by another ghetto complex that's technically accross the street but you have to get on 54 to get there. The equipment is older than my dad. I'm dead serious. It makes absolutely no sense to have a gym in such poor repair being shared by two complexes. My bad, I just remembered, it's shared by at least three complexes. TACKY.
Anyway, it does not take much to please me gym-wise, but nothing in it works properly. All of the...Wait, both of the exercise bikes are broken in some way or another. The best one cuts on and off as you use it, mostly off so you'd better have a watch. All jokes aside, I felt unsafe alone in the gym, and never went back. My home gym (exercise bike and weight machine)that I spent $450 on is 10 times better than the pitiful excuse for a gym.
The pool gets cleaned once a year, so just get it in early.
Maintenance people are pretty nice. I think they are a husband and wife team. You always see them riding around on golf carts(mostly the wife) nowadays.
Office staff seems to change constantly. I have seen about 4 or 5 different people since I have been here. They probably quckly realize that they can't honestly try to attract people to this place without either lying or leaving out some major details that would deter most renters with half a brain.
Either way, have fun looking for your apartment. Good luck if choose Ridgewood. I just know that I wouldn't if I had it to do all over again.
