I'm considering not renewing my lease, and it pretty much has to do with what other posters have mentioned. I'm in a studio, so my electric/heat bills aren't AS bad as others mentioned, but normal winter usage is still about $100/mo. I agree that the place isn't insulated too well - as I'm writing this, my heater is on and I'm still freezing, and this is pretty much a daily thing. Walls and floors are thin - thankfully, the resident above me is pretty quiet. I don't think I could've picked a better location, in regards to proximity to campus and bus lines (the J picks up at the edge of the complex, and you seem to see one literally every 5-10 minutes on weekdays). This is the biggest thing leaning me towards possibly staying around - that, and the complex's awkward layout with all its stairs would make it quite the chore to physically get all of my stuff out of here. Although I've had a few problems (one of them being major) with the aging plumbing, maintenance has been great in resolving the issues. Laundry rooms are new, too. Rare problems with management (definite lack of communication and understanding of policies within the team, first apparent when I first moved in), but it's really nothing that you wouldn't see anywhere else. I've seen much worse. My only big issue is that my car was broken into recently while parked here. I know - it can happen to anybody, anywhere, I'm not concerned simply that it happened while I was parked at the Villages. I was told later that day, though, that management would send out an alert to residents that there'd been a recent break-in. I never saw one out.
Basically.. it's just like anywhere else. If its great location is worth it to you, and you can deal with a few extra costs and minor inconveniences, I recommend The Villages.
