Pros and Cons of Cornerstone... READ this REVIEW!!!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I will try to make this review as fair as possible. But first let me say as a tennant, I cannot understand why these apartments have received such a low percentage. I would recommend these apartments anyday, and encourage you to check them out before you judge on such them by their rating. I've lived in worse apartments and better apartments and this is one of my favorites because of the layout, location, and view.
Location, Location, Location:
Pros:
-10 mins. (without traffic) to I-40/440 Beltline
-15 mins. to Walnut Street (Mall, shopping district)
-Walking distance to two grocery stores and restaurants
-10 mins. to Apex (more shopping plazas, groc. stores, restaurants, etc.)
-Neighborhood is more peaceful than upbeat.
Cons:
-15-20 mins. with morning traffic and 5 o'clock rush to I-40/440 Beltline
-High House to Cary Pkwy is always backed up by the time daylight hits, (this is the way to I-40/440)
-On the western edge of Cary, so downtown Raleigh is about 30 mins. away, and if you plan on working in Raleigh, the traffic comes to a standstill from 5-6 o'clock on the Beltline coming toward Cary so it will take a while to get home.
-Traffic is usually backed up past the on ramp for I-40/440 at 4:30pm, so I wouldn't recommend trying to get to Raleigh or travel I-40 from here in the afternoon either.
Parking:
Pros:
-NONE
Cons:
-There are detached garages in front of the complexes, which severely limits parking for those of us who do not wish to pay an outrageous amount to park up front. You can get a good space before 2 o'clock in the afternoon, but after that, plan on parking in the "back 40".
Noise:
Pros:
-The building that I am in seems to either be solid at keeping the noise out, or I have respectful neighbors because I haven't heard any loud music or loud people in my block.
Cons:
-I will on occasion hear the person upstairs vacuuming.
-You will hear people on the stairs outside from inside your apartment.
Grounds:
Pros:
-The grounds are beautifully landscaped and what sold me was the view of the lake with the fountain. There is a walking trail around the lake to all of the apartments that surround it.
Cons:
-I have noticed poo around the grounds from the pets.
-The children of the complex hover around the lake, so it gets noisy (even when the windows are shut) during the spring/summer.
I haven't used any of the ammenities, such as the pool or fitness room, so I cannot comment on those.
Interior:
Pros:
-When I moved in the apartment was in immaculate condition, nothing damaged, new carpet, new paint, and everything in working order.
-I have a gas fireplace and the unique feature of a window box above it for my television.
-Many guests of mine have said they love the view from my apartment.
-The kitchen is separate, but open to the living room through the bar design.
-I have a very spacious bathroom and bedroom.
-Electric runs $70/mo. for 2 people
-Apt. stays cold in summer.
Cons:
-Not a lot of storage space in the one bedrooms.
-Small closet.
-Water pressure is weak.
-You have to continuously hold the toilet lever down to get it to flush, I don't know if it's supposed to be water saving or not, but it is annoying.
Safety:
Pros:
-Cops, cops, and more cops. The police patrol this area religiously. I feel very safe at these apartments. I've had to leave for work sometimes in the wee hours of the morning and will always see them out patroling the area. I have come home late at night and they will either be patroling the shopping areas or the roads around here and even the complex. I know crime can happen anywhere still, but the Cary police do an excellent job of making themselves visible and accessible.
Cons:
-The shrubbery and steps make a good place to hide if someone wanted to sneak up on you, because you can't see around them before you get to your door/steps.
Construction:
Pros:
-They have done a lot of work in the short time I've been here to these apartments. They are on top of exterior maintenence like you wouldn't believe. I've had my balcony railing replaced and repainted and not because I requested it, and also the buildings and stair railings are being repainted.
-I have not had to have any interior maintenence done on the inside of my apartment, Everything was and still is in perfect working order.
Cons:
-The exterior maintenence has been a nuisance because of the noise and intrusion onto my balcony and people on ladders in the windows.
-The maintenence workers are down right rude if you have to talk to them too.
-Maintenence went on for about 3 weeks off and on, but right now it's peaceful.
Staff:
Pros:
-The staff is very professional, and I don't agree with the post about them being snotty brats. They have been most helpful to me and always kind and courteous every time I've been to the office. In fact, the pleasantness of the staff is one of the reasons I chose to live here.
Cons:
-NONE at this time.
Overall:
I would definetly recommend living here if you like a quiet, peaceful neighborhood that's just far enough away from the busy Raleigh, Durham, Cary area. The children that live in the complex are only a noise and parking lot issue (because they do walk in the middle of the road), but I'd rather hear them than the blaring of car radios and police sirens anyday. The people of the community keep to themselves but are friendly if you talk to them. I have LOVED living here and would renew again if they hadn't raised the rent on my apartment by $50.
