You get what you pay for

Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2005
I had lived in this property for about 6 years. Just like other apartments I lived in, there were plenty of things I liked and things I did not like.
I stayed in the 2 bedroom unit in one of the older units (Northwood apartments before Equity bought them). One of the plus is that these units come with W/D unlike newer units. Everything was pretty clean, given the age of the property. Windows and doors were old and did not seal as well as they should have. The dishwasher, while never caused any trouble, was old and loud.
Unlike some of the older properties in the area, I was able to wire 2 phone lines, and the property is DSL capable (I've had it for 4 years). The cable TV was one of the biggest disappointments I had. You can not get the Time Warner cable on this property because Equity has an exclusive contract with this small cable company, which rebroadcasts number of different channels. This means, if you want the high speed access, you need to have the phone. The office staffs told me that the Equity is in the legal process to terminate the contract and invite the Time Warner back. However, this did not happened by the time I left (summer, 2005).
Parking was never a problem for me since there were more than enough spaces, but some spots were poorly lit. The exteriors of the Northwood apartments were painted recently, but I would have liked to seen more updates (doors, windows, sidings, etc). Even with new paints, the buildings do look old.
The rent is pretty low, considering that this is in Cary although water/sewer is extra. For me, it was about $25 a month; so, just add little more to the monthly rent if you want to compare to other places.
I had some difficult time with receiving packages (being stolen from the office) few years ago, but that was also because the management used to let people just walk into the storage space and find their own packages. Since then, the policy has changed, and I have not had any problem since.
The management staffs were pretty nice although, in few occasions I had to deal with the headquarter staffs; I have to say that the corporate staffs were not really fun to deal with. It is my understanding the Equity is a part of large company, including Equifax.
In overall, I would recommend this property for those looking for a bargain.
