Hyde Park is Nice....

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
January 2002: We have been at Hyde Park for a couple months now, and are very happy here. Our unit is one bedroom with a loft (we have a really neat spiral staircase which sold us on the place.)
We don't spend alot of time using the community amenities, but they seem to be nice and available... people are always out washing their cars (and dogs!) in the "car wash area," and the facility is very "pet friendly" (they even have little poop-bag dispensers in the grass islands.) We haven?t been here ?in season? to check out the pool.
We paid the extra $35. a month to have in-unit washer and dryer (brand new, the best appliance in the apartment!) So I don't know much about the community laundry facility, except that it (and the "fitness room"- which is like 5 pieces of equipment) has a key card entry.
Our apartment is nice; it has a vaulted ceiling in the living room and a gas fireplace. We don't hear alot of "neighbor noise" (and nobody has complained about us, even though we watch TV pretty loudly!) The appliances are OK, nothing to special, definitely not new. And our dry wall has some flaws and bumps in it. When we moved in, they gave us $250. off our 1st 3 months, but now that that time has ended... $870. for a one bedroom (plus loft) apartment is seeming like alot.
When I've been over the office to pick up packages from the "package room," the people have always been very friendly. And when we put in a request for maintenance (after 2 o'clock) they came the next day at the time I had requested. Their system does not require you to call them, just put a notecard listing the problems in a box over in the mail pavilion, and they show up. The guy that came was really nice (I trust him!) and managed to fix several small things in one trip. The office seems to try and keep their people happy. Every month we get the Hyde Park Newsletter in the door.
The grounds are kept up nicely. There are always people out mowing and blowing. The location is great: 2 supermarkets right down the street, we?re about 5 miles from ALL the major shopping (Target, B&N, the Cary mall, pretty much any store you can think of)? it?s all close, but far enough away that we don?t get any of the traffic.
Moving in was a little rough (structurally-- we're on the 3rd floor, of a 2nd level entry), but nothing out of the ordinary.
I didn't care for the woman who was in charge of the office when we moved in. When we toured, I liked her just fine... she was nice and lovely (ofcourse)... I should have known something was up when I asked her if there were problems finding parking, and she replied, "I'm not going to lie to you...", like she was doing me a favor! (Coincidentally, we haven't had any problems with parking since we've been here.) She sold us on how we backed up to some tree preservation area, and implied it would be this beautiful scenic view forever... turns out the trees go back about 15 feet, and an (autumn) month after we moved in they started construction on a new strip mall... I felt a little deceived on that (it was a bold face lie!) But apparently, she's gone now. Everyone seems to be happy about this fact.
I am enjoying living at Hyde Park. I think we're paying alot to be here, but we're more happy, than not.
