Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2002

We lived at Hyde Park Apartments for about 3 years. The reason I lived there so long - is because with my schedule the way it is moving conflicted with lease times. I have finally moved to a much bigger townhouse that I am renting from an individual. Anyhow - I figure I can give a pretty good idea to anyone what to expect.

I will respond to things as they appeared on the survey:

Parking - If you come home after 5:00 p.m. don?t be surprised if you can?t park near your building. Often I would come home and have to drive all over the place trying to find a parking space.

Noise - When we first moved in, there was little or no noise in my building. Since the new management "Tanya" took over, I think they have been letting less than "quality people" move in and the noise levels have increased.

Grounds - Grass stays mowed. Nothing great.

Safety - This goes back to some of the new people that moved in to the apartments. Since new management arrived. I had both my truck and my Jeep vandalized. Also with some of the "punk" looking kids that started hanging around late at night would often make people feel cautious.

Exercise Facilities - Don?t even bother. Poor quality equipment.

Move in was ok - other than the fact the apartment was dirty. Move out was better - and I DID leave the apartment CLEANER than it was when I moved in.

Recycling - They offer a dumpster for cardboard recycling only.

Construction - Average - These buildings were built in the late 80s (maybe early 90s), so they are close to 15 years old. I have found that there were many new apartments in the Cary and Morrisville area that are much newer and nicer for the same or less money.

Appliances - Well I never was able to use the ice maker. I had work orders turned in at least 4 times and they never could get it to work. They would come and say the water tube was frozen - and tell me they fixed that. Never saw more than a dozen cubes ever come out of it. The dish-washer broke our 1st week there - but they did replace it with a very low-end model, that wasn?t very good. The stove was rather old and the handle continued to fall off and it would pop the breaker quite often. The frig worked but was rather old and the garbage disposal was adequate. I don?t really blame maintenance for these problems, I believe that they are ordered to keep fixing these old appliances until it is impossible to do anything else with them.

Water Pressure - Ok this was rather good and the bonus with this was that this apartment rent included water, unlike many apartments in Morrisville.

High Speed Access - Hmmm well yes you can get "High Speed" Access at these apartments. But if you want a "problem free" solution, you would have to go with Road Runner, which is not near as fast as DSL. Not knowing the problems, I had DSL installed into the apartment, it worked great, but the security system never worked after that. So I opted for the DSL over the security system.

Access to roads - One of the good things about this location is that you are located right off Maynard Ave near Harrison, and not far from I40. Shopping is pretty close. But anyhwhere in Cary or Morrisville you have the same advantage.

Ok - finally. Office staff: I rarely ever went to the office the last couple years at Hyde Park Apartments (because I gave up on trying to put in repair request), other than to pay the rent. When I would go, I would find that Mandy was always very pleasant to deal with, she is the girl that sits in the front room as you enter the office.

More about office staff: Hyde Park recently hired a new manager, Tanya. Tanya has the expression on her face as if someone had urinated in her cereal at breakfast time. She is rather unpleasant and seems to have an attitude problem and really does not like her job or dealing with people. Seeing how I rarely ever went to the office more than once a month of to pick up the occasional package, I always found it odd that she reacted as if she was being put out by the interaction with people, even when just receiving rent. I understand that the rest of the staff had an issue with the previous manager - but Debra (the previous manager) was at least friendly each and ever time I ever had to go to the office for anything. The owners (Donathan Properties) should consider either promoting Mandy to the manager position or hire Debra back.

Overall - for the money; there are much better bargins and much nicer apartments in the area if you take a little bit of time to look around. So I could not recommend this place unless you are really in a bind!!!!! If you are really looking for a place e-mail me and I will recommend a couple that I looked at that I thought looked nice.
