Don't Even Think of Living Here

We lived in Hyde Park for about 7 months and had to end our lease because it was the heat of summer and they could not seem to fix the AC. Our apartment was almost alwyas in the upper 80's low 90's. We put in maintenance request 3-4 times and they were very prompt about coming out, not fixing the unit and leaving. The maitenance worker actually told us that the apartment managers and owners were aware that the units did not work properly and were to cheap to replace them.
We also had problems with the noise. People could be heard in the parking lot late at night, our upstairs neighbors shounded like herd of thundering cattle almost constantly and we could often hear other occupants right through the walls.
The apartment complex is very well groomed but the management staff is untrustworthy. We read prior posts and went through our apartment with a fine tooth comb and notes every scratch, dent and mark on the walls on the proper form when we moved in because we knew that we would end up paying to have it repaired when we moved out if we didn't. They were suprised and not to nice about that because I guess it cuts off an extra stream of income for them.
I spent all day cleaning and scrubbing every square inch of that apartment before I left to include carpets, walls, closets and appliances only to be charged a cleaning fee anyway when I moved out. Trust me that apartment looked better when I left than when we moved in! No matter. What really makes me angry is that we followed through with our end of the bargin and paid promptly and on time and followed all the rules. They didn't follow through with providing us with an apartment in working order but guess who got stuck with a large bill upon moving out. We were charged in excess of $3,000 for breaking our lease when my doctor told me it was not safe for me to continue to live in the unairconditioned enviornment (cardiac problems). BTW we were told that window units were not allowed leaving us no alternative except to stay at a hotel and pay our rent too.
It seems that no matter what the circumstances or who failed to follow the rental agreement the occupant gets stuck with the bill. How is that fair'
