My time here was adequate. I found that while there wasn't much about this property that shouted "Wow!", there wasn't much that was truly awful, either.
I will structure this review based on the best qualities to what in my opinion are the worst.
(1) For the money, this place is actually a pretty decent value, considering the rents and cost of living of the sorrounding area (Cary is not cheap).
(2) I really don't understand the complaints about safety that I have read on this site. This place is located in the middle of Cary, in the neighborhood known as Preston. It is one of the safest cities in the entire state of North Carolina, and in fact the entire country for multiple years. You can look that up online if you wish. People frequently go for late night jogs or walks around this area to beat the heat of the daytime. So regarding safety, I simply don't see what there is to complain about.
(3) Within walking distance is a grocery store and several nice eateries, dry cleaning, and a golf course. Within a short (10 to 15 minute) drive are countless more grocery or dining options. Because of all the upper-middle income families in Cary, it big-box retail and chain restaurant heaven.
(4) The unit floorplans are fairly unique, with excellent HUGE balconies.
(5) The location (at least to me) wasn't very convenient. On most mornings, it will take you a good 15-20 minutes to get to interstate 40 or 64, and a good half an hour to get home from them in the evening (only a distance of six to seven miles). Additionally, the amount of time you will spend sitting at red lights trying to drive through Cary can be madening. It has taken me as long as 25 minutes to get to Cary Crossroads Shopping Center ON THE WEEKEND (only about 8 miles away on the map).
(6) The quality of construction is typical of most apartments, meaning quite poor. I can hear neighbors conversations from a few different parts of the apartment, there are at least 10 spots on our floor where the floorboards creak heavily, and the insulation is TERRIBLE, leading to some high electric costs. They have recently offered upgraded units with a more modern look, though in my opinion they are quite cheesy as everything in them is faux (faux stainless steel, faux granite, faux hardwood).
(7) The workout room (with the exception of the new flat panel TV's) is dated and needs redone.
(8) Parking is getting to be a pain (see number 9)
(9) BEING MORE THAN 13 YEARS OLD, IT WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR THIS COMMUNITY TO CONTINUE TO RENOVATE AND UPGRADE THIS COMPLEX, OR THE DESIRABILITY AND VALUE OF THEM WILL FALL. WHEN THE LATTER HAPPENS, THE COMMUNITY IS FORCED TO REDUCE THE LEASE FEES AND STANDARDS OF WHOM THEY RENT TO. THIS GREATLY DECREASES THE QUALITY OF TENTANTS IN A COMMUNITY. IN THE YEAR AND A HALF I HAVE LIVED HERE, I HAVE NOTICED THE QUALITY OF TENANTS GO DOWN CONSIDERABLY (unless it's just coincidence). THERE ARE SMALL POCKETS OF PEOPLE (everyone knows who they are and has seen them) THAT LOITER AROUND VEHICLES BLASTING THEIR MUSIC AT ODD HOURS OF THE NIGHT LIKE THEY ARE BACK ON THE BLOCK, OFTEN WITH BEER BOTTLES IN HAND. THIS SUMMER I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE COUNTLESS "NEW FACES" SEEN AT THE POOL THAT ARE NEVER SEEN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE COMPLEX. CURIOUSLY ENOUGH, PARKING HAS BEEN SEVERLY LIMITED DURING THESE TIMES. HMMMMM... START CHECKING ID'S AT THE POOL, THESE PEOPLE DON'T LIVE HERE! I ALSO KNOW OF TWO TWO BEDROOM APARTMENTS THAT HAVE AT LEAST FIVE RESIDENTS LIVING IN THEM (there may be more for all I know). THERE NEEDS TO BE A RESTRICTION ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT CAN LIVE IN A UNIT.
During my time here, this place was a decent community to live, with a lot of good qualities. I hope it remains the same by maintaining or raising its standards. Only time will tell.
