Imperfect, but our home.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
This is the second year that my husband and I have lived here. The staff really worked with us when we signed a lease on a larger apartment for the second year and we required about a week of overlap for the move. We were able to get our keys to the new place early and weren't charged for the extra days. They waived the deposit a second year in a row and our pet fees carried over to the new apartment. They even let us borrow our old mailbox key before new tenants moved in to pull mail when we had trouble with getting it forwarded.
Our two bedroom apartment is spacious and full of natural sunlight. The garage is so enormous that our friends managed to temporarily store an entire apartment's worth of stuff and we were still able to park our car. The majority of the staff is very friendly and knows us by name. Any maintenance issues have been taken care of the day that they were reported. Our apartment is very quiet. The grounds are extremely well-kept and I have never felt safer. Not to mention, you cannot beat the location.
That being said, a lot of the complaints about the Park at Crossroads are absolutely true.
It's August and we still do not have a clubhouse, but management has kept us as up to date as possible and never made any promises. Fortunately, it looks like progress is finally being made on the clubhouse.
The white carpets are a nightmare with all of the red clay, not to mention our parking lot was asphalted AFTER we moved in. Do you know how hard it is to clean tar from a white carpet'
The water pressure is low, anything that touches the wall leaves a mark, and the dishwasher model they chose is a piece of trash. Parking appears to be a problem now that all of the buildings and apartments are filled, but luckily we have a garage.
There are also some staffing issues. I know more about the apartments from living here over a year than one of the new girls who works in the office: she was unable to answer most of our questions when she showed us larger apartments near the end of our first year lease. And personally, I think the manager comes across as being unapproachable, and has bordered on rude the rare occations I've had to deal with her. But I don't imagine it's her job to be warm and friendly. I prefer to deal with the assistant manager because she is knowledgable and efficient, while being very pleasant.
So, it is not perfect. The complex has obviously experienced construction problems and general issues that come with being a brand new operation. But you would be hard pressed to find any rental situation that is perfect.
Despite my criticisms, I highly recommend The Park at Crossroads. This apartment complex is ideal when I compare it to the numerous places that I have lived over the years. I love living here. This is the first place since leaving my parent's house that I've felt so comfortable that it actually feels like home.
