Poor Quality and Unfriendly Service

My wife and I have lived at Vista for one year now. We moved to North Carolina from the Pittsburgh area and were shopping for a rental via the internet. After arriving we were pleasantly surprised as the community/apartment looked very much like the pictures.

However, the problem with the staff started immediately. They forgot to mention that we needed a check for the first week's rent before we could get the keys. However, as our checks were on a moving truck in transit they were not accessible. Everyone was uninterested in our situation and refused to even apologize for not telling us we needed a check. They also animatedly refused to give us the keys until we gave them a check...so we had to wait until the moving truck arrived, dig through it and then wait for the office to reopen to get the keys.

After we got settled in and began the requisite "damage check" we found that this "brand new, never rented apartment" was falling apart. There were holes in the walls, scratches in the fake counter tops, laminate cabinet doors that wouldn't close, poor carpeting and cracked tile - not to mention that the bedroom had not overhead lights, just a switch in case you wanted to pay to have a new light installed.

As time went on we got accustomed to the place and ignored the problems. That was until summer came and the overpowering stench of garbage nauseated everyone in the development. Apparently the proximity to the sewage plant and the lack of regular garbage pickup lends to a rather unpleasant odor when the temperature goes above 80 degrees.

I could go on about the problems, the staff, and everything else but it is not worth it. Suffice it to say...RUN AWAY, run while you still can!

Are you kidding me? This guy is crazy. Yes you have to pay rent for your move in. No you cannot have the keys. So you've lived there for one year, did you renew your lease? If your apartment is so junkie and poorly built did you call the office and ask they come fix the stuff? Oh that's right, you say they are "unhelpful." I'm moving in this weekend because I have 3 coworkers that live there and LOVE it. So anyway that review is BOGUS! Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Whoa, are we living in the same complex. The proximity to the sewage plant and the smell is true, I'll give you that. I think the smell will go down a little as it gets colder but its hardly Vista's fault. Water has to be treated, does it not. As far as the check, AGAIN, HELLO PEOPLE - you can't go into a store and take something without paying. Who in the world moves into an apartment WITHOUT paying for rent? Isn't that common knowledge. You are renting an apartment, no where will let you move in without a check in hand. As far as the damage. I live right near the pool, and I was told my apartment had been lived in before. I was surprised because the place looks, smells appears unlived in. I dont have any holes in my walls, whoa.. nor scratches, nor any non working doors. The carpet was clean and shampooed. I just went away on vacation and when I got back I could still smell the fresh pain smell even though Ive lived there for 2 months now. My bedroom has a ceiling fan which has lights on it, all working. I love living at Vista, (so far ) had none of these problems. Sounds like yer making stuff up cause you forgot to pay your rent.

No holes in your walls? You're lucky. I had one behind my stove and one under the cabinet in the bathroom along with the bathroom closet. Was told the mice made the hole. As soon as I find the cable to my camera I will let the folks on this site be the judge. Personally, that mouse would have needed an electric saw to make such a hole. As far as the bathroom closet goes, it looked to me that the builders got lazy because there were a number of openings to let in the little critters.
