Corporation who doesn't care

It is a nice looking and quiet community. The little playground is good for people who have kids, and the pool is nice except when the drunk students are there leaving garbage around, acting rude and being loud. Location is good if you need to commute on I-40. Overall it shows very nicely. However, we were charged a fortune after moving out and it was incredibly unfair. Upon move-out I attempted to do a walk-through at their request, but they did not show up at our appointed time then said I was okay with not doing one. I made it clear to them that we had the litter boxes in the closet (no bigger than 20 square feet) and that one of my cats had urinated on the floor (in a small area, but I imagined the entire carpet would need replacing in the closet). I was aware that we would be responsible for this, and made them aware that it was limited to the closet. The rest of the apartment was spotless (except an area where the dishwasher leaked and ruined the carpet, which was their responsiblity). To replace carpet and padding in the closet alone could not cost any more than $200-300, so when we got a bill that included carpet for the entire apartment I was very angry (still am). Clearly, communication is an issue and I wish I'd tried to reschedule a walk-through to be sure they understood where the damage was. Nothing we said made a difference and because they hold our credit hostage with this unreasonable amount we have to pay it. If I'd known this was a possibility I would have just taken out the offending carpet and maybe I would have been charged only for the damage I actually did instead of providing brand new carpet for them. I would not recommend them based on this experience (our AC was weak, dishwasher leaked, and there are a lot of drunk students, though). According to my fiance who lived their longer, they are known for extravagant move-out fees (though a $60 application fee is WAY above the industry standard of $25 for the same services). It's been very frustrating. P0MtU6TIdDkM23RTonAS
