Not bad, not great

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
I've lived in Foxcroft for almost 2 1/2 years. From what I can know of other apartments in the area, the space is a good deal for the money, although the apartments are relatively old (at least, mine is; I'm not sure if they've done remodeling in others).
My only complains about the apartment itself are the bathroom (hideous wallpaper, old fixtures) and kitchen (cabinets are really dark, counter old and scratched up); the kitchen is closed off from the rest of the apartment, which can be a pain if you have friends over. But the living room, dining room and bedroom are all pretty nice, and I have two big closets. The office staff isn't very professional, but I haven't had too many actual problems with them. A couple of times I've had to call two or three times for maintenance. I do seem to find a lot of camel crickets, but I live on the first floor so I figure it just comes with the territory. Someone else complained about the noise from the landscaping work - they do seem to start really early in the morning, and they do spend a lot of time blowing leaves around.
Parking is fine (no assigned spaces); you might have to walk a little if you get home after nine or ten, but there's always a space. The parking lots aren't lit as well as I'd like, but then again people would complain if they were too lit up to sleep too. There are lights in the breezeways that are always on at night. Noise isn't much of a problem. The location is really good - it's right next to 15-501 (major road to Durham and I-40), and I can get to my job in RTP in 20 minutes. The complex is on two bus lines (big deal in Chapel Hill - parking on UNC campus is atrocious, but Chapel Hill busses are free); one runs every 20 minutes, but either takes 45 minutes or you have to get off and walk. The other goes right to the front and the back of the complex after about 15-20 minutes from campus, but only runs once an hour and stops between 9:30-3:30.
I've signed new leases twice since I moved in. I started paying $658 for a 12-month lease, which increased to $678 when I signed a six-month lease. When I signed my next (12-month) lease, the rent went all the way down to $545 - I'm not sure if they were trying to compete with other low prices or what. It looks like rent is back up a little now, though.
Basically, I wouldn't gush about how great Foxcroft is, but it's not bad either. My lease is up in February and I'll probably go month-to-month, but just because I'm probably moving out of state.
