Unsafe and poorly managed

By all means, think twice about living here, especially if you are a female living alone.
I initially enjoyed the charm of Glen Lennox so much that I was willing to overlook the dead roaches and mouse or rat droppings I periodically found in crevices of my kitchen. I was also willing to overlook the times I was locked out of my apartment after dark due to a faulty lock on my door, not once, but twice, even after maintenance had alledgedly "fixed" the lock the first time around. But the final straw which completely overrode any illusions of "charm" in this place was a harassing male neighbor who would periodically beat on my door and yell for me to open it so he could tell me that my declawed indoor/outdoor cat was fighting with his indoor/outdoor cat (that wasn?t declawed). One late night, I caught him peeping at me (while I was not dressed) through the mailslot in my front door (I later checked and could see a full view of the living room through the mail slot). The next day I reported it to the management, who allegedly "took care" of the problem. However, I never received any written notification that anything had been done, and in fact had to call the office to ask if any action had been taken. The fact that my neighbor continued to harass me after I sent a written complaint to mgmt led me to question whether or not mgmt had taken any action whatsoever. And later, mgmt admitted to me that this neigbor was allegedly mentally impaired. That is something I certainly would have loved to know before signing a lease at this place! I lived in fear in my own apartment for a full month before I was able to find another apartment and move away from that location. Even then, management was unhelpful in assisting me in promptly finding an apartment in another location in the community, or in another location owned by the same management company (that was in my price range). I moved out within exactly one month of the "Peeping Tom" incident- as quickly as I could find another apartment. My concern over my safety was far more important to me than the fact that it cost me almost a full month of rent for the month AFTER I moved out of the apartment. (The lease agreement requires residents to give a 60-day move-out notice and I was only able to give a 30-day move-out notice. Not to mention that negotiating that lease term with management was entirely out of the question as far as they were conerned- even in light of my special situation) So, not only did I get to feel threatened and harassed by a neighbor, and literally feel like a prisoner in my own dwelling, but I got to pay a hefty sum of money for it. PLEASE learn from my mistake. Between faulty, poorly maintained door locks and management?s apparent lack of careful or reasonable screening of tenants who might be your neighbor- don?t let the charm of this place deceive you. Especially if you value your safety.
