Great location...

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I moved into Glen Lennox a year ago, with two roommates. For the most part, I really enjoy living here and think it is great, although there are some areas that could certainly be improved.
Pros:
*Great location, especially for students. Glen Lennox is located on several bus lines, and also is within walking distance of campus.
*There is plenty of on-street parking, especially if you live on a corner (we do.)
*I love that since it is an older neighborhood, there are mature trees throughout the neighborhood. We have a beautiful oak in the front yard, as well as additional trees in the back.
*Everyone in the neighborhood has shared yard space, which is really great. In the summer months I can lay outside to do my homework, and in the winter I can build a snowman (assuming, of course, that it ever snows more than a fraction of an inch.)
*We've had very few repairs needed, but whenever we needed anything fixed the repair guy was very prompt and had all repairs completed within 24 hours.
*We opted to pay a little bit more in order to get the updated model, which comes with washer/dryer, dishwasher, and a fully remodeled kitchen. The kitchen is great, very new appliances and plenty of storage.
*Pets are allowed (with a pet fee and monthly charge), which is great because we have a cat and a bunny.
*There is an excellent community feeling here, it's easy to get to know your neighbors.
Cons:
*Because this is an older building, there are a few minor cracks in the walls above the windows, which are hardly noticeable but still definitely there.
*Because of the large trees outside, there are often bugs--including cockroaches. We have had cockroaches inside the house a few times, but each time we called the office and they sent someone down quickly to spray for them.
*Rent goes up substantially each year. Ours went from $900 to $925, which is a lot of money when you are a poor college student.
*Three girls sharing one bathroom can be a little bit arduous on occasions. I wish Glen Lennox offered a model with more bathrooms.
*Heating and cooling the place can be somewhat difficult at times. I don't think the apartment is well insulated, so in the summer it is hard to get it comfortable cool without blasting the A/C. Our electricity bill has reached $110 in the summer, as a result of keeping the A/C on high to keep it a comfortable temperature inside. In the winter, the apartment is heated by gas, and it is also difficult to keep it warm enough.
*This is my second year living here, and thus had some roommate changes over the summer as old roommates graduated, etc. Getting an apartment in Glen Lennox is easy...removing someone from the lease and adding someone new to the lease is NOT easy. It was a hugely massive struggle to remove one roommate from the lease and replace her name with someone elses. If you move in, you should plan on staying with the same roommates who you live with originally. The people in the office are very nice, but it's apparently really difficult for them to take people off the lease or add new people.
