A big mistake

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
I'll start with the plusses (there aren't many). It's close to campus (if you have classes on the west side of UNC, you can walk or bike easily) and it has yet to be condemned by the health dept. or the local housing authority (but in a few more years...).
The negatives: 1) BUGS!!! I've read the other reviews and I can see that my experience was far from unique. My roommate and I didn't really rent our apartment, we paid $750/month (3 years ago) for the pleasure of sharing a living space with very large crickets 6 months out of the year. I mean BIG CRICKETS and lots of them! Of course, we complained and maintenance came. All he did was spray some Raid under our kitchen sink (where the crickets spent their days before launching a D-Day like invasion on our downstairs at night). They stopped coming out for about a week, but then came back with a vengeance. After another complaint, we were told to buy some Raid and deal with it. Needless to say, that didn't work. The only thing that did work was winter. Once the cold weather took hold, the crickets stopped coming. But once spring came, the crickets came back. Horrible.
2) Laundry: Expensive, inconvenient, and dirty. Had to drive to a nearby laundromat just to get change.
3) Value: Don't be suckered by any advertised deals. Other places have similar deals and you'll probably get a much nicer place to live.
4) Convenience to campus: As a law student, all my classes were on the opposite end of campus, so it was taking the bus for me. Or two buses actually. Crossing 54 twice a day on foot is no fun and trying to turn left onto 54 (toward campus) in a car can be a harrowing experience as well.
Bottom line: Look elsewhere.
