Old apartment, convinient location.

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
Although management has renovated the apartments with new windows and sliding doors, the age of my apartment is still very evident. The place is very leaky to heat and I ended up paying $100 or more for electricity during winter months in my first year. This last year I used a fan heater and knocked my winter monthly bill down to $40.
Secondly, the electrical work in the apartment is horrendous. The outlets suck - some are unusable and haven't been changed. At one point, all the power in my bedroom was knocked out when I used a hairdyrer or fan heater in the bathroom. Maintenance people did fix this pretty promptly. That's one of the major plus points - they respond to maintenance requests quickly. However, they tend to make huge mess whent they do fix something and don't clean up after themselves.
Thirdly, there's the noise factor. I live on a second floor apartment and I can hear the guy above me walking around, using his bathroom etc. Basically, the floorboards are old and creaky and should've been changed a long time ago. I've been woken up at 3 or 4am at night because of these creaky floorboards. I'm sure my upstairs neighbour is not stamping his feet or anything, but it's still quite annoying.
The major advantage of living here is the convience to UNC. I bike to campus and it takes me 10 minutes. The bus stop is also close (on Hwy 54) and the J/D buses go straight to campus in 5 minutes or so. That and the cheapish rent ($560 a month for me) are the major reasons I decided to stay an extra year. Another plus is my 1 bedroom apartment is very spacious (750 sq. feet) and lots of storage space.
