A great place for the price

I've only been here four months, but thus far, I'm quite happy with my apartment. Some of these reviews on this site are almost absurd! I'm not sure where some of these people get off claiming it's a "high crime" area or anything outrageous like that. It's very safe and I've never encountered any problems or even seen or heard about any problems.
Most of the tenants seem fairly pleasant, but there are a few exceptions. Parking is decent. Management has been fantastic for me. Any time I'm having a problem, they remedy it fairly quickly. The apartments aren't perfect, but like I said ... management is very good about fixing things quickly.
The location is great and you'll be across the highway from the J and D routes on the Chapel Hill Transit. If you want to walk through the gate near the tennis schools and up Edwards St., you can catch the CM route, as well. It's also a good place to be if you own a bicycle; you can cut up the path to Edwards Street, hit Merritt Mill from there, and go just about anywhere in Chapel Hill or Carrboro by bike.
Oh, and the pool is wonderful! Most of these apartment complexes just put in some crappy pool that they don't even maintain so they can advertise themselves as 'having a pool'. I signed my lease back in winter when the pool was closed and I didn't expect much out of it, but it's actually very nice! Tennis courts are a nice bonus too, if you like tennis.
There are a few negatives. They've been really bad about letting garbage (and especially cardboard) pile up out near the dumpsters. It's not that awful since it's away from most of the apartments over in a corner somewhere, but it's still annoying. Another negative is that many of the single bedroom apartments are close enough to the highway so that you can hear the traffic outside during most of the day. This annoyed me a tad bit at first, but you sort of get used to it after all. Also, the laundry room is hardly spectacular. It seems like a few of the machines are torn up occasionally, people do all kinds of bizarre things in there, the room feels like a swamp and its infested with bugs and mosquitos, and I even had some old man (presumably with some form of demetia) throw a bunch of his underwear in my machine one night. Nevertheless, it is a laundry room, it's on the premises, it's fairly cheap, and most of the machines seem to function alright. All of my complaints add up to small potatoes, really, but I don't want to claim it's "paradise" or anything.
Overall, I've very much enjoyed it here and I'm glad I choose it. Some of the other places I was looking at seemed like safer bets (Poplar Place, Ashbrook, Franklin Woods), but they were all more pricey and I'm perfectly content being here.
