A look at the Chapel Hill Police dept. website (http://www.townofchapelhill.org/index.asp'nid=475)will leave you convinced that Laurel Ridge comes next only to Kings Wood in terms of no. of larceny and burglary committed in 2007. Recently some incidences of attempted forced break in has happened (while the female resident was inside the Apt.). Management is too callous to accept and act on it. All this is due to lawless residents of two nearby apartments who use Laurel Ridge to commute between NC54 and Franklin street.
Management cites that since break in can happen anywhere hence theres no point doing much about Laurel Ridge security issue (as you can see some of the comments on the forum pasted by the management).

Actually when I went to the page you posted there were several of other apt complexes that had higher crime rates than this one, University Apts and Pinegate being a couple of examples. I've lived on the Hwy 54 strip for some time and compared to the other apartments in the area such as Abbey Court, Pinegate, University, Kingswood and etc Laurel Ridge is actually pretty quiet. It's about making smart choices and being careful, which is true of any community you live in.
