Depends where you live

My wife and I lived here for two years. We had some ant trouble at the beginning, but between asking for the management to spray outside our section and cleaning up the door area, it didn't take long to stop that. We had some basic apartment maintenance issues, but the management was nice when we called and generally fixed everything well enough. Bigger issues were the drip that we could hear above the ceiling during the worst storms and the constant mold problem (if you aren't a naturally clean person, don't live here). By the time we moved out, the water stain could be seen all the way down one strut in the bedroom wall...it will cost them thousands of dollars to fix that because they didn't listen.
We felt relatively secure, since we lived on the top floor of the building closest to the entrance, with good lighting around our car and stairwell.
I would definitely NOT recommend living in the back, since the paint and maintenance seem to be a whitewash on most of those units. Also, some of the porches look completely unsafe. We didn't have one, so that's your call.
Overall, management was fair to us, but changed WAY TOO FREQUENTLY to establish any sort of rapport (I suspect the owning company didn't want people getting any sympathy breaks from the local managers).
The pool was closed until June, despite weather in the high-90s over Memorial Day weekend and assurances that it would be open "well before the end of May" in their newsletter. The pool turned green in mid-summer and was closed in mid-September (so don't count on swimming much). The grills are rusted entirely through and are unusable. People let their dogs crap everywhere.
Despite the problems, it wasn't too bad, since we got a decent unit and were able to negotiate the price a bit (and keep our special rate the second year). It's survivable, even good at times (like the bus access). I'd recommend it for a shorter stay (1-2 years tops), but wait until they paint the exterior so you don't feel swindled.
EDIT (I've moved now): all those people who griped about moving out of Walden had it dead on target. Local management might say nice things to you, but even if you clean like a fiend and do the walk-through with management, corporate will try to swindle you out of your money. We're in a legal battle to get our security deposit back. If you don't have the hackles to make them suffer, you won't get anything back from them.
