A bunch of reasons you don't want to live here...

-Always upheaval and high turnover with managment, so no continuity and frequently staff who have no idea what is going on.

-Slow maintenance service. Our last request before moving out required me calling FOUR times and personally visiting the office TWICE in order to get the garbage disposal repaired.

-The buildings are falling apart. The paint is peeling, the deck floorboards are warped and look as if they're about to fall through. Bathtubs have incurable mildew. Bathrooms are very poorly lit. Little to nothing has been done to update or renovate these apartments in a LONG time. Yet the rent has not been lowered....

-It's been more than 30 days since we've moved out and they still have not returned our security deposit and therefore are in violation of NC law.

-Chapel Hill has a wealth of apartments. This one is overpriced for the poor quality and service. But if you should choose to rent here, during your initial walk-through document and take photos of EVERY little scratch on counters, hole in the screens, damaged blinds, etc. They are RUTHLESS when it comes to issuing fines after you move out. Also, if there is any damage to your unit during your lease that was not your fault (e.g., maintenance causes a water leak that floods your unit), make sure it is properly documented and made part of your file or else they WILL try to charge YOU when you move out.

-We had some safety issues involving door-to-door scam artists. Of course this wasn't management's fault. However, many residents informed them of the situation and requested they distribute a notice warning the apartment community. It took them two weeks to get around to doing so, and in the meantime there were several more incidents.

-I was charged $25.00 by management for a piece of cardboard in the dumpster!!!! Chapel Hill does have a law requiring recycling of cardboard, and apparently the apartment mgmt will be fined if the city finds cardboard in the dumpster. Mgmt never informed us that THEY would charge us if they found cardboard in the dumpster. But that's just what they did to me, even though they found it and not the city and consequently were not fined for it themselves. (BTW, I did not put the cardboard in the dumpster. I had family from out of town helping me move out, and they didn't know the recycling laws.) Surely mgmt has better uses for their time than digging around in the trash....such as responding to our maintenance calls!
