Yo!

Lengthy, but honest - worth the read.

Dear Apartment Hunters:

I've rented here at Cameron at Hickory Grove for almost 2 years now and when the lease is up I dont plan to re-sign. Reasons follow:

The manager, Linda, is unprofessional and condescending. I am not a "hun"; I am a "ma'am". You don't say to me, "you'd better be here before 6:30"; you say, "It would be best if you could get here before 6:30...

My husband and I have been fighting "the system" for 6 months now over a leaking dishwasher. If you advertise that your units have dishwashers, do they not have to be working dishwashers' The statement, "my dishwasher leaks from time to time, also", from management, is not an acceptable answer to me. I, personally, don't like my socks to get soaked when I go to the refrigerator.

We are contemplating a complaint to America First Properties. So, if it's not fixed I will demand that under the Apartment Features column: "leaky dishwashers" is listed.

The list goes on and on for reasons to be dissatisfied. Lets see...I think I'll start with the kitchen. If you want more than a microwave and a coffee maker in your kitchen, this is not the place for you. I love to cook...and right now, so that I may have the 20" X 20" counter space (which seems to be standard for apartments), we have our microwave set on our bar. This is not the ideal location for obtaining a visually pleasing dining area.

The sink is shallow, the faucet is too low to fill a pitcher, and there isn't one of those squirters with a hose for rinsing dishes (one side of the sink has to be empty so you can rinse...your drain has to sit on the counter).

Albeit we love having a pantry, narrow as it is, there is a lot of wasted space in the back. It's about 2 feet deep and you can neither see nor reach anything back there. I'm thinking of storing my Christmas decorations there...

The complex, from what I understand, was built over 15 years ago. Seems we have the original linoleum...

Aside from lousy paint-work (paint on shower tiles, tub, fireplace) and out-dated features (faucets, appliances, mini-blinds) I believe that's all the complaints I have about the inside. Some words of advice before we go outside, though: Please don't let the terms, "walk-in closet" fool you. Just because you fit inside when you take one step side-ways doesn't mean you've walked in. Remember, they seem a lot bigger when they are empty. Secondly, "broom closet" is literal.

Speaking solely of the building I am currently residing in, here are my complaints:

1. When it rains, even a sprinkle, our breezeway floods. If you plan to move here, plan to purchase flippers.

2. The one patch of grass we have in the front of our building has a sinkhole. It's easy to find...just look for a footprint in black mud that's about 6 inches deep. This was once "cleverly disguised" by grounds-keep with grass clippings. I wasn't fooled; just amused. Yeah, thatll fix it.

3. We have a lovely view of rush-hour traffic on Harris Blvd. from our patio, which, thanks to run-off from the floors above, has a lovely moss/mold covering. I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the cement and making it a putting green. Know where I can get one of those little flags on a stick'

Although they have tried to make improvements, like new (previously used) washers and dryers in the laundry mat (which they put in a month after we bought our own set); pressure washing the outside of buildings; and putting up security gates, they have a long way to go. For example, the swimming pool is showing it's age; the tiles are falling off the walls (by the way, the hot tub in the ad is filled with cement and has a gazebo on it). There are potholes all over the parking lot. And the newly installed gates malfunctioned with the first rain, trapping motorist inside and causing them to be late for work (so far only a one-time incident). According to my husband, there is also a portion of the gate that is unfinished. In other words, there is a gap and any Tom, ---- or Harry can mosey on in. Some security that is...

I hope this review has been helpful. If you decide to rent at Cameron at Hickory Grove, I suggest always asking for the Assistant Manager, Melody Parks. I always find her friendly and helpful.

Signed,

Disgruntled Tenant

P.S.-I forgot to mention that the complex is conveniently located between the Charlie 6 station and the fire department. Soothing sounds of sirens often fill the air.
