We moved to Carmel on Providence in July 2003 and are currently enjoying our stay here (February 2004). We live in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath town home with vaulted ceilings. The vaulted ceilings do make winter energy bills higher, but you don't have to choose a unit with this feature. Personally, an extra $30 per month during the winter is worth the beauty of the vaulted ceilings and the large windows. Although this unit was probably built 20 years ago, it has been well maintained and updated. The appliances, fixtures and interior d'cor are clean, modern and work well. If you want to live in a brand new sparkling town home or apartment, this may not be the place. You may want to go across the street to Strawberry Hill and pay another $250 per month for the same square footage. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this. But, if you want to live in a quaint, quiet, affordable, and relatively safe place, and in close proximity to the SouthPark area, then Carmel on Providence is it. Some of the other reviews complain about the slow response concerning maintenance requests. My experience has been very satisfactory. Every request I have put in has been taken care of within 2 days, and the staff is friendly. Another great feature of this place is that it is fenced off at the perimeter and there is a large hedgerow in addition to the fence separating it from the apartment complex next store. On the other side, it is also bordered by Providence Road and Fairview Road. So, Carmel on Providence is relatively isolated from outside foot and motor traffic making it safer. Very rarely will I see somebody walking through the complex that doesn't belong here. I really like living here; you can walk across the street to the Fresh Market and other shops and restaurants; and you can be at SouthPark Mall in 5 minutes. Management seems to screen tenants very well. They require a certain credit score and a fairly stringent rent payment to income ratio. What I am saying is that you don't see 5 people living in a 2 bedroom unit, or music blaring at 2am in the morning. Most of the people living here are either retirees or young and middle aged professionals.
