I stopped by earlier this week at Courtney Oaks to check on availability and price on 1-bedroom apartments. Wendy the assistant manager helped me. She was friendly and professional.
Pros: . There are more amenities than one would typically find at other apartment complexes in Charlotte. Of course you are paying for it. . The buildings seem to be well constructed. . Nice pool. . Nice kitchens, cabinets, countertops, etc. . Cute but small desk in the hallway for a PC with Internet outlet. . The security deposit of $300 can be waived with strong credit rating. . The location of the apartment complex is not too far from I-485, Super Wal-Mart, etc.
Cons: . Over-priced units. The 915 Square Feet Persimmon Oak 1-bedroom unit rents for $825 per month after the ($70 off) special. The 818 Square Feet Sassafras Oak 1-bedroom unit rents for $815 after the ($70 off) special. I believe that anyone who pays more than $720 in rent for the nicest 1-bedroom apartment anywhere in Charlotte is wasting his/her money. . The bedrooms are small (145 Square Feet). I would consider anything less than 170 Square Feet to be small. . In the Sassafras Oak 1-bedroom unit, the W/D closet is located right when you walk into the apartment next to the main entrance. Also, the dining room (only 49 Square Feet in size) is smack in the way to the rest of the apartment. What were the architects thinking about' . The area is not the best in Charlotte. . The outside of the buildings incorporates the color Mustard, light Green, dark Green. What's up with that' . Application processing 'Administration' fee is $200. Why' I don't know. The rest of the apartment complexes in Charlotte, even the best in the Rea Road, Ballantyne, Piper Glen area don't charge more than $150 for the processing fee.
Neutral: . The Charlotte Police Department (CMPD) academy is across the street. Big deal. Only those who have lived in Charlotte for many years know that CMPD is a joke. They never show up when you need them. However, you can find them at the neighborhood gas station sipping on complimentary coffee and exchanging made up gong ho, 'want to be' hero stories.
That is my opinion about the Courtney Oaks apartments. You can decide for yourself.

have you looked to see how much it costs to rent a decent apartment in a safe/nice part of Charlotte. It's not a waste of money to pay for a nice, comfortable, safe place to stay, even if it is an apartment
