Do you enjoy living in the ghetto, having loud bass vibrate your apartment at midnight, and enjoy strolling past USED CONDOMS in the parking lot' If so, Courtney Oaks is the place for you. This place is way overpriced for the area, the maintenance, and services provided. I moved in September after moving from out of state and decided to break my lease before the year was up because I could no longer live in that place. The place looks respectable during the day, but if you are considering moving in, visit after dark and walk around in and outside of the plan. This is when you can get a true feel for the neighborhood. Stroll past the graffiti advertising your favorite gang, but watch out for the dog and cat feces that litter that grasses in the plan because your fellow residents don't know what it means to be a responsible pet owner. I would also drive a couple miles in either direction and see where you are living. Coming from out of state put me at a major disadvantage as I was unfamiliar with the area or the apartment complex itself. I relied on the high rating here which was very misleading.
After driving 13 hours we arrived in an apartment which we still had to clean even before putting our stuff down. The counters were sticky and cabinets and drawers still dirty. Someone was kind enough to leave change in our disposal and splatter our ceiling and walls with red paint or crayon, which even after 9 months of living there was still not painted as requested nor was the flickering hideously ugly light in the kitchen ever fixed as was requested. Nor did maintenance bother to clean up the aforementioned USED CONDOM, instead it remained in the parking lot for over a month. Maybe one of the "Big Rigs" that routinely took up four or five of the parking spaces ran it over and it stuck to one of their tires because I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that they did not clean it up. I was lucky enough to have a view of the dumpster that was always overflowing with trash and the recycling areas which too were overflowing often resulting in a overflow to the parking lots and even grassy areas. Were it not for the dozen of stray cats that lived in the dumpsters, I would imagine that the place would have been overrun with rodents and other critters. But I will have to say that maintenance was really on the ball when I moved out (I decided to break my lease early to get out of there 3 month penalty payment and all-- the condom incident was the last straw) and they decided to charge me $75 because they had to remove some stuff I left behind. In the interest of full disclosure I am telling you this and you can make up your mind, but I will say that there were some things left in the apartment, but it was not a large amount, nor was the place left dirty. Also, to be fair, I have to say I always did find the office staff pleasant, both Wendy and Lauren. Although I wasn't happy with the fact that Wendy decided to charge me for what I can only imagine in that place still has to be one of the cleanest apartments or the fact that maintenance never fulfilled the requests that we made for service the day we moved in. Nine months later it still wasn t done . maybe they will do that for the next occupant. If this comes across that I am bitter, you are probably right. Not that I have to pay them $75 or be sent to collections, but it is the principle that I feel that as I resident I was neglected but yet their expectation is that everything should be left perfect. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in an apartment. I felt that paying over $1,000 should get me a decent apartment in a decent area. If you are a hard-working person who wants a nice place to come home to and relax, Courtney Oaks is not the place for you.
