We have lived there for over 2 years and we have minimal complaints.
Someone else said it perfect - its not Ballantyne!!! But it is also about the cheapest you can find in Charlotte. The location was good for us as well.
The interior had been renovated before we moved in, so everything was brand new. They have since painted the exterior (not that I really like the colors, but the complex looks better with fresh paint)
The office staff has been extremely helpful and we have no real complaints about them.
It really makes a difference on where you live within the complex as well. First of the all, the Doral side is much nicer. And we live in a unit close to the office. There is 24 hour security that we see very often. Also, when you live on the 1st floor, they provide flood insurance for you...all you have to do is turn in the paperwork!
The issues someone mentioned before with the washer/dryer and A/C are no longer a factor - It is not humid and there is central air.
I will agree with the comment about the thin walls - we often hear the people above us (footsteps and televisions), but not as much the ones on the sides.
As far as crime, drugs and prostitution that was mentioned before - we have never come across any of these. Again, I think it makes a difference on which street you pick your residence.
Our neighbors have been excellent and very friendly.
Of course it would be ideal to have 2 bathrooms along with the 2 bedrooms, but its managable.
Maintainance normally responds quick and comes out the next day.
Since there is construction quite a bit, they have turned the water off numerous times over the 2 years, but only once did they not warn us ahead of time, so I will assume that was an emergency incidence and not planned work.
I will agree with the comment about barking dogs. There are several people that leave their barking dogs out for long periods of time.
We picked Doral b/c it was very affordable and that was the number one priority at the time. We chose to stay b/c it's really not that bad and we will soon leave Charlotte anyway, so I did not want to move twice. Trust me, I had the "do not want to be on this side of town" fear, but I have never felt unsafe while living there. Bad things happen in all kinds of places and I have not witnesses them happen more here than anywhere else in Charlotte. Doral has been an excellent stepping stone for us - we were able to save money that would go to rent at any other places. I have often recommended Doral to people and they have similar reservations that have been mentioned (flooding, crime, etc.) but we have lived there for over 2 years without any of these affecting us.
