Affordable, close to uptown but risky.

I lived at First Ward Apartments for several years and it does have some upsides. It is very affordable for a uptown location and in a convienant location. However, the neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of children playing in the parking lots and if you have a car it will most likely be dinged nicked(multiple times)/broken into/stolen while you live there. I would only recommend living here if you are a recent college graduate who does not have a lot of valuable possesions or fear for personal saftey, or if you are a family of 6 looking for HUD (section 8) housing. Within the next couple years there will be a new "mixed income" (section 8 available) apartment complex being built one block away from First Ward Place so it doesn't look like the neighborHOOD will be getting any better in the years to come.
