NOT A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE

I have lived here since the summer, and while I would have agreed with the two good ratings back then, this place is turning into the ghetto faster than anything I've seen. In the past week I have had a one neighbor tell me that his apartment was broken into through a window and last night I JUST SAW ANOTHER NEIGHBOR GET SHOT! I was literally woken up by the sounds of yelling and gunfire and watched from my window the guy holding his hand and screaming as another guy with a gun just walked away. Then I heard them interviewing another one of my neighbors and asking them if they had any more guns. Really puts a damper on your sleeping when you feel you have to stay up to see if the police arrest anyone and can find bullet casings. I have lived in Charlotte my entire life and never felt as unsafte anywhere as I do here. I cannot wait for my lease to move up, hopefully I will get out of here with all of my property and no bullet wounds.

In addition to the safety issue, there is no parking. The college kids leave beer bottles and dog poop everywhere, and I think these apartments are built out of cardboard. I can hear EVERYTHING ANYONE ever does (like shooting each other, for example). People hang out in the breezeway all hours of the night and their conversations wake me up even though my apartment is in the back of my unit.

Unfortunately, it is 2007 and crime is everywhere. We all need to take steps to not make ourselves targets, espacily during the hoilday season. If the University area CMPD would respond as they do in other areas of Charlotte, they may be a bigger help in preventing these situations.

WATCH THE NEWS CRIME IS EVERYWHERE IN CHARLOTTE! I live here and things happen. It's the way of the world. If you had a house what would you do if it happened on your street? No one is safe anywhere they go. Make sure you take the proper precautions.

I am well aware of the year and the overall crime rate in Charlotte. Obviously people are responsible for doing whatever they can to prevent themselves from being a target, to do otherwise would be incredibly stupid. I do find it a bit ridiculous to blame CMPD for crimes that occur as they seem to be quite responsive - I see them here all the time! When that person was shot (who by the way was shot by someone trying to steal his car, not someone he knew, I got more information after the fact), they were here within five minutes! In regards to the second response from the person who is overly fond of their caps lock - I watch the news. I have lived in Charlotte my entire life, and in many different areas of Charlotte. I don't need you telling me what the crime rate is here, thanks. I didn't attempt to compare living in an apartment to living in a residential housing neighborhood because that would have been unfair - crime happens a disproportionate amount in apartment complexes, due to a compressed population density and a high rate of turnover. Knowing that, I still can say that I have encountered more victims of crime here than at any other apartment complex I have ever lived it. I also see the police show up here more than anywhere else I have ever lived, and I'm not talking about cruising around to make sure everything is ok. Whether or not you like it, I'm well within my abilities to observe that and deduce that my chance of being a victim of crime here is higher than places where less crime is committed. I also find it hilarious that you gave me the advice to "take proper precautions". That is exactly the wording used in the letters that show up on my door every time a crime occurs (however, they did neglect to mention someone got shot). In fact, if I were to ever somehow forget that I need to be vigilant and mindful of my own security, those letters that show up on my door will surely remind me. They consistantly remind me that only the police and myself can be held responsible for my safety and that "no one can ensure it". Gee, that's in the second comment too.

Whoa, trigger. I think you're definitely exaggerating just a teensy bit when you say this is the unsafest place you've ever lived in Charlotte. You obviously haven't lived in very many apartments, have you? For the University Area, I'd say Halton Park is INCREDIBLY safe. You might've heard of some guy getting shot because he wanted to defend his car stereo, but what about all the other extremely violent break-ins at complexes less than three miles away from our own? I don't know about you, but I haven't heard of any homicides, hostage situations, or incidents ending in pistol whipping or sexual assault, unlike SEVERAL of the communities that are just two streets away. If your neighbor was broken into via the windows and they live on the 1st floor, I'm honestly not surprised. That happens everywhere, as well. For the University Area, we're in great shape. And you know what? So what if the person above you sounded like they were quoting the security letters? It is true. If you feel that unsafe, move, but I'm sure you're going to find worse problems elsewhere if you are in the same area.

Communities like this are give and take. No one can expect total silence (especially the way this place is built) however they have to understand people that pay to live here have a right to have conversations and listen to music when they want. However, those people need to respect their neighbors and know when they're being overly loud. Instead of always just calling the cops when people are loud because you are afraid of a confrontation, do the neighborly thing and go and speak with your neighbors and ask them to keep it down. Try to work out a system with them that both of you can tolerate. Also you might be surprised to find out they really aren't being as loud as you think, it's these paper thin walls that make it seem that way. And yes I live at Halton Park. I don't have a problem parking at all unless it's late and everyone's home, if that's the case I don't mind walking an extra 30 feet. The crime isn't bad compared to other areas either.

Halton Park is one of the best apartments close to UNCC. Yea there has been some crime but compared to other apartments in the area it is nothing. And if you are going to live in an apartment complex close to a university expect college kids.
