If only we had known........

We moved into our apartment in early 2007. The apartment that we were shown was similar in floor plan, but not similar in quality and appeal. We moved anyways because like most renters, we live from lease to lease and have to live with your choices.
The parking is horrible, there are no definitive lines in the parking lot, the neighbors show a complete disregard for other tenants cars(ie the multiple scratches and dings on both sides of both of our vehicles), and if you come home after dark, you might have quite a walk. The first big rainstorm we found out that our front porch turns into a lake. Due to this, the biting insect population thrives around our apartment. The noise levels of the hallways can be quite loud at times and some of the neighbors let their small children play outside at unreasonable hours(past midnight).
Now moving to the inside. We moved into our bait and switch apartment to find many problems with the general condition of the unit. Most of the problems were taken care of promptly minus a few major ones. We are still waiting for them to repair some major defects. The maintenance staff is nice, but does not spend much time attending to the problems in our apartment. Since we moved in, there have been five different maintenance supervisors. In the meantime there are water leaks and electrical hazards in our apartment that go ignored. The apartment has breeds of insects crawling around constantly that I have never seen before. This is not a house keeping issue either.
The management will seem very accommodating and personable, but don't be fooled. We have reported our problems to them on countless occasions to only receive empty promises and blatant lies in return.
If you are thinking about replying to this post in a slanderous manner, there is no need. I am not on here to argue with other tenants about their point of view or honesty issues. I wrote this in hopes that someone looking for an apartment will see this and make the right decision for themselves and maybe the management staff will see this and change their ways. In my opinion, this apartment is not worth the money that we pay for it. If I could change the past, I would not have moved into this complex. When our lease is up, we will definitely not be renewing.

In addition to my post, I would consider myself a good tenant. I always pay my rent on time, don't make any noise for my neighbors, and I don't hang out at the pool all night. This seems to be the criteria for being a good neighbor in this complex. Yet I would much rather live elsewhere. I will say that I like the new maintenance man and that he does a good job.

I too have lived here since 2007 and have experienced none of the problems you cite in my apartment. Anytime I have an issue, I call, and the management promptly responds. The same manager has been here the whole time and she does not put up with any bad behavior, so if this tenant had just informed her, she would take care of any resident complaints or maintenance issues for them. My hot water heater broke right after I moved in and they took no time to get a plumber in to replace it. And anytime I call for help, they are prompt and courteous. The only thing truthful is that there have been a few maintenance people through here, but that happens at all apartment complexes. The maintenance position seems to be one that has a big turnover in this industry. The man who does the job now is fabulous and polite. Pool hours close at 10 pm so people are allowed to be in that area until then, and if anyone was screaming or partying on with lots of noise, a simple phone call to the police would have settled that issue. Then follow up with apartment mgr next day to report the issue. I guarantee this is not something that happens a lot here. There are also very few families with small children in this complex, mostly single folks, or people with older teenaged kids. It is very quite, there is plenty of parking, and scenic. The apartments are old, but very large and have lots of windows which makes living here serene. My neighbors are nice, helpful, and polite. So, not everyone will be happy all the time because it is human nature, but any apartment is what a person makes it. Additionally, rent is less than what I paid at a complex down the road, you get more space for your buck here also. I am sorry one person had a bad experience, but no reason to disparage the entire complex. And I am not the manager, I am a real tenant...
