Marquis of Carmel Valley

I have had a positive experience at the Marquis at Carmel Valley! I've worked in multi-family brokerage and I know a good apartment complex when I see one. There are ups and downs to every apartment, but that is what you deal with if you are living in close proximity to other people. The newer the construction, the cheaper the build. If you don't like noise, choose a 3rd floor apartment and if you are lucky, choose a unit with a wooded view. I requested both and have been extremely satisfied with my pick. With the exception of one crazy neighbor, noise hasn't been an issue. All of my neighbors have turned music off by 9PM at the very latest and are respectful. Parking seems to be a problem near the buildings with 2 or 3 bedroom buildings. I live in one of the 1 bedroom buildings so parking is easy.
The office staff is exceptional. Every request I have made was easily accomplished within hours... and the issues I've had have been pretty simple - sliding screen door came off the hinge, ect. Every time I walk into the office, I'm always greeted with a smile!
Back to the crazy neighbor, she had been apparently harassing other residents complaining of any and every noise. Granted she did have mental problems, because Equal Housing she couldn't be refused residency. We shared a common wall on the 3rd floor. It began with hearing her scream and curse to someone on the phone. It would go on for a good hour at least once a day. I contacted the office about it since one day I was able to hear her rant from the across the parking lot of the building with all of her windows/doors closed. Then a few months later, she began harassing me - telling me when I could or could not do laundry and that she had people watching me and to be careful. She then resorted to calling me inappropriate names. At that point, the office staff made some deal with her to cut her lease short w/o penalty to leave the apartment. It was a very uncomfortable position to be put in (especially being told if it happened again to call the police), but the office staff was extremely sympathetic and very responsive for an apartment complex.
The pool is great and was just refinished. Since Carmel Valley and Carmel Commons are sister complexes, during the renovation, we were able to use their pool. Actually, at any time you can use either apartment's amenities.
I'm sad to move from Carmel Valley because they have set a high standard for any other place I go. I would sign for another year, but I want to move closer to my new job. Since there was NO increase in rent, it was hard to say no to!

Thanks, this will definitely help me out. I looked at these apartments last week along with several others and this is one of the two I liked. The other one did not get good reviews at all.
