I chose this place for various reasons, including the security features (gated entries, etc.) as well as the fact that they were willing to allow me to pay six months in advance when I moved in being as I had no employment. I was told when I moved in that assuming I found employment, my lease would be extended past six months and I would pay monthly thereafter. This turned out not to be the case and they demanded another six months up front to continue my lease...only four days prior to it being up, after I had planned only to pay a monthly rate. But management had changed, sorry. My second year of signing the lease there was a new manager who reviewed the situation and agreed to allow me to pay monthly rent.

During my stay there, the maintenance was shoddy at best. I tried to utilize the fire place and it was backed up, so I called the office. I told them I had a house full of smoke and there was a problem with the fire place. After verifying that I had indeed opened the flew, they said someone would be out promptly to care for this matter. For the remainder of my three years there, no one ever came out to fix it.

The security gates that seemed so appealing are most generally broken or on auto-open.

The electrical outlets are fire hazards and I stated that sparks came from them upon plugging things into them when I moved in, but only were they fixed after I finally threatened to call a fire inspector.

The rent for a two bedroom seemed grand, only $599 a month. However you are locked in at the rate you received on moving in. My neighbour has lived here for four plus years now and pays about four hundred more a month. For the same exact apartment. When she called to speak with them regarding the difference in our fees, she was informed that new tenants get incentives, but none is offered to those already here to stay.

My final straw was when the pipes burst to my water heart in December. I woke up to find the floor of my bedroom saturated, days before Christmas. I called for help and was told they would send someone out. One man came out to verify it was a burst pipe and no one came out again until a week later. My Christmas was spent with a bitterly cold house that smelled of mildew from the saturated bedroom and sun room. When the repair individuals finally returned to work on it, they patched it up and said it should be fine, but don't smoke on the patio. That concerned me, so I called the fire department. They sent a truck out and tagged the water heater and said that it was not safe. They also called Duke, which turned off the gas so that it could not be turned on again until the apartment properly repaired the water heater and pipes. It took another week of continual calls and complaints for the apartment to send in the maintenance team and to properly fix it.

Did I mention that during this three week time from initial breakage that they still had done nothing about the water flooding my apartment' Their final resolution on this matter was to rip the carpet up and run fans under the surface to dry the padding out.

I finally moved out, 2 months shy of completing my lease. They took me to court for eviction and fees because I did not finish the terms of my lease.

I would not suggest this apartment to anyone who has any other alternative.

This does not sound like the management of Matthews Crossing. I have lived here for nearly two years and I am very pleased with my apartment and the management staff. They even gave me a carpet cleaning when I renewed my lease.
