New to Charlotte' Don't know where to stay' Park Lane Apts is my recommendation.

We moved to Charlotte in 1999 and totally lucked out finding this apartment. We had a 3rd floor apt with vaulted ceilings with a huge guest bathroom. The complex itself is very small and only has 4 buildings - so the manager gets to know you. It's located inside an established townhouse community (they are owners and not renters) and since there is no thru traffic it is quiet and peaceful. The apartments were brand new when we moved in, and they still look new now. It has a sprinkler system, security gates (but I never have felt like they needed it), and NO WHITE WALLS.

The good thing about living in South Charlotte is that you go against most of the flow of traffic. Morning heavy rush hour flows from north to south, and afternoon rush hour flows south to north - but commuting from here I am going against the heavy traffic most of the time.

Some of the bad things about this place (and every place will have them) is that there are no typical "community amenities" like a pool, exercise room, ETC - but you pay less rent because of it. I think you can pay extra to join the townhouse's community center - but that never interested us. It's also located near South Blvd which can be considered a not so nice area, but you are also located about 8 blocks from Quail Hollow Country Club where the Wachovia PGA tournament plays. There is also not much room for kids to play around here. Last thing is that it's located off of Sharon Rd West which can be difficult to make a left turn onto during rush hour - there is no traffic light.

After pricing out what other apartments were going for - choosing this one was a no-brainer. You get a really nice apartment because: they are located inside a quiet townhouse community, do not have to pay for the expenses that some huge complexes tack on for amenities (which most people do not use), and I felt safe here.
