Well, this place was better than my last apartment, but it definately has its downside too:
Parking - I thought my last apartment was bad...this has been a nightmare. At first, the parking lot was constantly crowded at night, and many people were simply parking in the grass, on the curbs, and out in the middle of the lot (no, not in a space...in the "aisles" of the lots). It was so bad that they would block people in their spots at night, and you couldn't even access half of the lots because of cars just being parked anywhere they pleased. Well, to fix this, Pavilion Crossings has now started TOWING cars. Sounds alright, until you realize that ANYONE not in a visitors spot, and without a "resident sticker" will get towed. Still sounds decent, until you realize that there are approximately 5 visitors spots PER BUILDING. That's right...8 apartments per floor, 3 floors...and FIVE VISITORS SPOTS. Those get taken up by early afternoon, so don't plan on having ANYONE over to visit you in the evenings, unless they want to pay $120 to visit you (which is the cost of getting your car back from the ungodly assclowns that tow your car). I swear, if I get towed again, I WILL steal my car back from them, you can count on it. I'll be damned if my apartment complex STEALS my car again...the car of a paying resident. I will also let them know that this is a major reason that I'm not renewing my lease when it comes up in May.
Noise Level - Not too bad...there are some "rowdy" girls that live below me, but they don't make as much noise as they did a few months ago. Remember, you're still within a mile or so of UNCC...hence, quite a few college students.
Grounds - Not too bad...in fact, it looks really nice around here. Too bad this apartment complex allows dogs, and allows dogs to take a crap anywhere they please. The grass looks nice, but stay off of it, unless you enjoy scraping dog crap off of your shoe.
Safety - Can't say I've felt unsafe here, but a recent string of apartment break ins and robberies have me weary of living in Charlotte anymore...
Construction - Pretty good construction I suppose. Nothing to really complain about here...
Maintenance - Again, no complaints here. They've come out to my apartment rather quickly when I've had problems with plumbing and such.
Cable TV - I've decided to bypass the Office Staff rating in order to rant about the unbelievably crappy service we have here. Now, when I first came to the apartment, I called Time Warner to set up my cable service. They called back the next day to tell me...they don't service this area. Don't service this area' Well then who does' Guess what...this apartment complex has THEIR OWN cable service, through a company called "Reflex Cable". Well, that's all fine and dandy, until you realize that you only have approximately 50 channels as compared to Time Warner's 70 . Same price...20 fewer channels (and Reflex does not carry Speed Channel...whose headquarters are less than 5 miles away). Even worse than this is their "cable internet service". The reason why I put it in quotations is because it is the most god-awful internet service...EVER. Yes, even worse than AOHell, if you can fathom an internet connection sucking that badly. I'll honestly be surprised if my internet connection is still working when I'm done typing this review. The connection is SO SLOW...they claim it is "cable", but I've had dial up connections that are on par with the speed of this service. You're lucky to get downloads at 20KB/s. LUCKY. On a "cable" connection. I have friends with Time Warner, and they are mad if their connection is running at a "slow" 250KB/s. So yes, you're paying $50 a month for a "cable" connection that's 10 times slower than the competition. That's like paying $90,000 for a Hyundai automobile. What's worse is that the service is SO slow, that the cable modem must be reset approximately 7 to 10 times PER DAY, because it'll just stop working. Again, at my friends' apartment, they haven't reset their cable modem in 8 months. I've discovered the reason for the crappy cable TV, and the tortoise internet connection: Reflex uses satellite dishes to get the cable signal (including the internet) to the apartments (notice no cables lines coming in from outside the complex). Yes, satellite dishes...so when there's bad weather, your cable TV goes out. Also, satellite internet is great if you live in the middle of nowhere, and have absolutely no way to get cable internet or DSL...but this is CHARLOTTE! Satellite internet is notoriously slow, and our connection here is no different. And as much as I use the internet, this ticks me off to no end. Why not let us get our cable from Time Warner' Because Pavilion Crossings has a contract with Reflex...just like they have a contract with the towing company. It's all about $$$, not about the residents. Thanks Pavilion Crossings!
