I moved to Plantation Park at the beginning of April 2008. This WAS by far the best value at the time. I say at the time because they had discounted prices while they were renovating the apartment complex (resurfaced lot, painted all buildings, and renovated many apartment interiors), which has raised the price some. Probably still a good value, but I say that without knowing the current price.
I rent the large 1 bedroom and love the layout. I have a huge walk-thru bathroom, walkin closet, nice sized living room and kitchen. Perfect for 1 or a couple w/o children. With that said, I also live on the first floor, which has it's advantages and disadvantages alike. Good: I can grill. I have an open patio. Bad: You can clearly hear any step from the floor above. When I first moved to this apartment I did not have anyone above me. I could still hear the person on the 3rd floor (barely). I have had one family (2 adults 2 small children) live above me and the 2 year old sounded like he weighed 150lbs even though he was actually more like 25lbs. STOMP STOMP STOMP until bedtime, which varied nightly.
If you have a problem with dogs, I suggest you don't move into a community that is pet friendly... That seems like a viable solution to me. By the way, the apartments fine (supposedly) residents that don't pick up after their dogs. On the flip side, they hire someone to come and pick up the dog mess.
edit 6/24/09- the following paragraph is false. As much as I give the management the benefit of the doubt, I am constantly disappointed by their attitude problems. I can be as polite and congenial as possible and they still have ugly attitudes. They made my friend take the grill off of his 2nd floor patio, even called the fire dept one day when we grilled (ok that was our fault...). This might be excusable however the property manager has a grill on her 3rd floor apartment patio! :-O
%%u "The staff is extremely friendly and sociable. They are on the ball and will help you in any way possible. Anyone who says differently probably doesn't work well with others/has their own attitude problems. Overall the residents here are sociable and friendly. That is if you're sociable and friendly yourself. Again, if you have your own issues and tend to project them onto people, you might just find you wont fit in anywhere unless the people around you have the same issues."%%u
As far as insects are concerned, I live right on the creek, so I expect a certain amount of bugs hanging around my place. I've seen some spiders and other random bugs, but I have never seen a roach, nor has any of the dozen other people I know in my building or others.
The "out" gate is always open. The "in" gate is out of service 10-25% of the time.
I might recommend this apartment complex, but I would have to say, only rent on the top floor.
