Great place to live!!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 11/28/2007
Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2003
I moved into PPA before construction was complete on phase 1 back in 1999 and was there until 2003.
First off, I have NO idea what the person who wrote the review titled "Urban life in the South" is talking about. There was no Salsa or loud music with heavy bass when I lived there. I think he must have been speaking of another complex. I can see what he meant about the cars, though. My apartment was right next to one of the two main entrances, on the 3rd floor. On weekday mornings the vehicles stream out of there constantly as people headed out to work and it started around 5am. It may be a bit annoying for a few days, but you soon learn to sleep through it.
My take on PPA:
PROS
- GREAT staff.
Both the front office and maintenance staff is top notch. I cannot say enough about them. The service they provide and the way they provide it is always professional and friendly. It was one of the main reasons I stayed there for over 4 years.
- HUGH apartments
The floor plans cannot be beat. My kitchen was bigger than that of most of my friends with houses. The appliances were wonderful as well. The bathrooms are huge with both shower and garden tub and the big windows let in a lot of sun. The apartment I was in was wide open with a central pillar, which made the 1300 square feet seem even larger than it was!
- Good gym
The workout facility was accessible 24 hours and contained a nice array of Nautilus equipment, free weights and cardio machines. Had a TV in there, towels were provided and the room was spacious and clean. I would have liked to see a larger variety of free weights (higher weights) but overall it was very good.
- Great pool
The pool area was always clean and nicely landscaped. Great place for those evening swims to cool off in the summer. Can get a bit crowded on the hot days, but it was mostly families so it clears out in the evening to afford single people a bit of time. :-)
- Ample parking.
There was no assigned parking, but I could always find a space. The lines they painted in 1999 are a *tad* narrow and sometimes people over-ran them, but overall it's simple to find a place to park.
- Good garbage and recycling facilities
Unlike many apartment complexes, PPA provides a good place to recycle. This was an important feature to me and I was thankful for it.
- Price
As with everything else in life, I wish it was cheaper
CONS
- No car care facility
I would have liked to have had a car wash there. PPA seems to cater to an upper-middle clientele (if the BMWs, Mercedes and Jags in the parking lot is any indication) so maybe they figured we'd all prefer to pay someone to wash our cars. I like to do it myself. On the plus side though, water was included in the price of rent so they provide spigots outside the buildings I could use.
- The light!!
This was really annoying - even after 4 years. I am all for security (and this place has had very few incidents over the time I was there), but do we really need so many lights around the place that I can read a book in my living room at 3am just by opening the blinds'' It was so bad that I had to get REALLY heavy drapes for my bedroom or just not sleep. I think this can be toned down a notch.
- Mail stop.
There was only one (which was fine - it was a pretty small complex), but there was no place for the postman to put packages that wouldn't fit in the normal box. They were forced to drop them off at the apartment office. This was a real inconvenience for me. I used to leave for work on weekdays before the office opened and I'd return in the evenings after it had closed. Consequentially, I had to wait for the weekends to get my packages! On the plus side, if I called the apartment office they would drop the package off in front of my apartment door for me, but I really did not like asking them to do that over and over, plus I prefered not to have my packages just sit out in the open like that (although I NEVER had one tampered with or stolen in the 4 years I was there). PPA is safe!
- Placement of the air conditioner unit inside my apartment.
This is just bad design. They placed this big AC unit in the living room, right next to where your couch will be (the floor plan for my particular apartment sort of dictates furniture placement because of the built-in TV nook). When that AC unit fired it was loud and drowned out the TV/music. Annoying and unfortunately cannot be changed.
Overall, I would highly recommend PPA. The cons are few and for the most part, easily dealt with.
PS: I am not affiliated with PPA in anyway, apart from the land lord/lessee relationship. I've received no compensation of any kind for this review and it is 100% my own opinion.
