I have lived at Camden Foxcroft for 5 months, and I've had problems since I moved in. While most of them are small, there is almost always something wrong.

First, I was told that the apartment that I was shown would be the same floor layout as the one I would be renting. When I moved in, I was surprised to discover that that was not the case, and I knew there was nothing I could do since I did not have anything in writing about the floorplan.

The first week I lived in Foxcroft, I had to call the rental office every day because something was not working. Some of those calls could have been avoided if someone from the office had done a walk-through with me to show me the various features of the apartment. Nonetheless, I had to call 3 times to get the works changed in my toilets so that I could flush them. I couldn't flush my toilets for the first 5 days I lived there!

Water drainage is a major problem. When it rains, there is standing water EVERYWHERE (parking lot, sidewalks, 1st floor patios). The water has been above my ankles in the parking lot before.

For the past month, I've had major issues with the leaky roof, as I live on the 3rd floor. Initially, there was water damage and mold in one of the bedroom closets. It took nearly 3 weeks of calling and nagging to get it fixed. Just as soon as that got fixed, a leak was evident in the bedroom itself. I'm still trying to get them to fix it. I'll probably always have to deal with the mold odor, as you can read from one of the other residents' reviews who had the same problem.

My apartment has poor water pressure, and as a result, my water bill has been twice what it has been anywhere else I have lived.

The windows are poorly constucted, and there is always a bit of a draft. It's expensive to keep the apartment heated and cooled because of the poor quality of the windows.

I'm not going to say that the folks in the management office are rude, because they haven't been, in my experience at least. Most of the management staff are quite approachable and concerned about the residents' well-being, but one lady is a bit flaky and maybe even a bit dishonest. I will say that the management office has some major commication issues that need to be resolved. I generally have to call repeatedly to get anything taken care of, as they rarely check their voicemail. When I do get through, the "flaky one" acts as if it is the first time she has heard about my issue, even if I had spoken to her directly earlier that week. They also have a tendancy to deliver an occasional nasty-gram. The week after I moved in, I received a nasty-gram about how I should only use the new trash compactors, and not the old dumpsters, and if I was caught using the old dumpsters again, I would be charged a $50 fine per bag disposed. As you can imagine, this note was the first I had heard about the new trash compactors, and I was furious that they had delivered this note instead of politely telling me about the new trash compactors (fyi, as far as I know, there is only one trash compactor for the entire property, and it's kind of a pain unless you live right next to it. Of course, I could be wrong. Like I said, the management people never tell me anything).

The neighborhood is great. South Park is one of the best locations in Charlotte, if you don't mind being a 20-30 minute drive from uptown. The rent is definitely reasonable considering the neighborhood. The only complaint concerning the neighborhood is that the apartment complex is right next to Charlotte Country Day. I can literally hear every word the football announcer says during games on Friday nights. The school is the only noise complaint I have. Most of the residents are young families or young professionals. However, there have been some problems with break-ins, predominantly in the first floor apartments.

I've spoken to people who have lived in Camden Foxcroft for years and they love it. Perhaps they were lucky enough to get an apartment in better shape, or maybe the places they lived before were far worse by comparison. In my personal experience, however, the problems I've experienced and the time it takes to fix them are simply unacceptable. In grad school, I lived in one of the oldest, smallest, run-down places in the college town, and I didn't have this many problems. As far as other places to live in Charlotte, I lived in Salem Village apartments in Dilworth (owned by Marsh Properties) and I loved it. The reason I don't currently live there is that it's about $100 more a month and I no longer have a roommate. Let me just say that if I knew what I know now, the $100 would a small price to pay for peace of mind. The folks at Marsh are so much more organized and take much better care of their properties and tennants. I highly recommend checking them out over Camden, even if you pay a little more per month. I know that when my lease runs out, I'll be going back to Marsh Properties if I'm still renting as opposed to buying.
