I would rather be homeless than live here

Upon moving in, I was relatively happy with the apartment (decent neighbors, apartment seemed to be in good condition), but it did not take long for me to realize that moving to these apartments was a terrible mistake. While I admit that several members of the staff are good people (it is noteworthy, however, that these people have all quit and moved on to more promising careers with other companies), it still must be noted that Rachel Duffney, the property manager, is a very unethical person. She is very friendly to your face, but I have seen and heard her bad-mouth many tenants behind their back, and she is notoriously tight-fisted in terms of repairs (the property is clearly in a state of decay). Her greatest shortcoming, however, is in the unscrupulous and unreasonable charges that are levied once you move out. I was charged for kitchen counter-tops (no burn marks, always used a cutting board, no apparent damage at all), floor treatment (to the tune of $175, with her claiming that the apartment smelled like urine; a questionable claim since no one and nothing ever urinated on the carpet), and a rediculously exhorbitant charge to replace the entire carpet (including both bedrooms)!!! The carpet was in general good condition save for some very minor wear and tear, with both bedrooms being in immaculate condition. The condition of the apartment was verified by the then-assistant manager on the day of my moving out.
I would strongly encourage you to choose a different place of residence. Rachel Duffney is a very mean person and should be ashamed of her unethical charging of tenants for unnecessary repairs.
As I said, I would rather be homeless than live at The Fairington again.

I have lived at The Fairington for several years and find it very difficult to believe the things that have been written about Rachel Duffney, property manager at The Fairington. I know her well and she is very fair and genuine person; sounds like someone has sour grapes for living like a PIG!!!

This is obviously Rachel writing this herself because no one at this community likes her. I too had charges for things that I had reported. I had to take my time to dispute them and then the main office reversed those phoney charges and gave me my refund, but it took awhile.

To the first reply - you may think what you like, but I took care of the apartment, and the then-assistant manager performed an unofficial walk-through with me a few days before I moved out and stated that other than some MINOR wear and tear on the living room carpet, there was nothing else to repair to the unit.
I have lived in a wide range of places, with some great landlords and some shady landlords, but Rachel is by far the most unethical and dishonest of the bunch. I wonder how her son will turn out with such an unscrupulous person setting an example...
