Glad to be gone, and some other thoughts.

The Lodge is a nice apartment complex, don't get me wrong, but the neighborhood is falling into an undesirable state. I want to absolutely clear on this -- I do NOT think it's the fault of the management company or the staff. They're just as much a victim as myself and the other residents.
If you're moving from out of town and are considering the Lodge, here is some background. There is a neighborhood a mile to the west called Derita. Further southwest is a neighborhood called Hidden Valley. Derita is one of the lowest income neighborhoods in Charlotte, and Hidden Valley is gang territory. Combine that with all the new large strip malls and establishments popping up around the Lodge, and you've got a situation that's ripe for loitering and crime.
As these neighborhoods push closer and closer to the complex, you can guess what that brings. To sum it up: ghetto. At first glance, you'd assume the Lodge is a beautiful apartment complex, and you'd be right. But what you CAN'T see is the paralyzing social and criminal problems that are skyrocketing.
I encourage you to use the resources available to you and search through all the crimes in the neighborhood. The police department here even allows you to map them:
http://maps.cmpd.org/cmpdnet/map.aspx
Ironically, the police department is partially to blame for this trend. If your car or apartment gets broken in to, they won't even show up. You will have to do the report online or on the phone...there will be no investigation. (They can't even put drunk drivers behind bars, what makes you think they can investigate a car break in at an apartment complex')
Is the Lodge well managed and maintained' Yes.
Is the Lodge increasingly unsafe, noisy, and populated by unconcerned citizens' Yes.
Is the Lodge outright dangerous' Not yet.
I would seriously give pause to moving in here. On a personal note, I want to point out that I have NEVER seen a collection of neighbors that were so oblivious and rude. Stomping up the stairs at 3 a.m. talking at full volume on a cell phone, then slamming the front door behind them. It's not only an epidemic in crime, but an epidemic in woefully inconsiderate human behavior.
The two feed off each other. And things slowly deteriorate.
(I also want to respond to another posting I saw on here about the staff being "chicken heads" and "racist". It's pretty apparent to me, at least, that when people say things like this, it's because they didn't get their way and they're upset. Or, they did something wrong, don't realize it, and just want to blame someone else. Whatever, take your toys and go home. The staff are extremely nice, and they are most certainly NOT racist. How stupid do you have to be to think that' If you're not happy, you move out, and they lose their commission. It's in their best interest to keep you happy, folks! It's their JOB!) qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
