Gated community is a truth. There is a gate. It does not work as I write this, yet, I pay extra for that secure feeling. In the year I have lived in this complex the gate has worked thirty percent of the time or less. Of course, when it did work, if you used the gate card monitor's 'contact office' option you were allowed in with no questions day or night. Actually not day the gate was open all day and you could just show up at the office. But at night you need only have the contact office code, which was broadcast on a lighted screen, to enter. Ah, that secure feeling is worth the extra $50.00.
On the positive side I have not seen a bug or rodent in my apartment in one year. I am amazed. Negatives: The guy a couple of doors over has a barbecue on the deck outside his apartment. We had an inspection two months ago as to what is and is not allowed on your deck. Do you think barbecues are allowed' I didn't think so but I am apparently wrong. So I am concerned about my drunken neighbor incinerating me.
I will leave, without being thrown out, at my the first opportunity. The fifteen month lease is a joke. These people are so desperate to get people in they will take a six month lease. Be sure to ask when the gate last worked or when they expect it to work again. I have asked about the gate and the staff think it is funny. (Yeah, you're funny too.}
There is a drug, (crack or worse}, dealer in my building. There is dog ---- everywhere. I have the smell and the hair of a dog without owning a pet. How can you beat that. I even have dog hair in my food. I love my non-pet.
There is a disparate bunch of people living here who have recently lived in a lot worse places. To those people I am sure, to you, this is a great place.
If, however, you are smarter than a cereal box and have lived in a decent place with lousy management before and do not wish to repeat, you should avoid this place.
If you can be content with being lied to until you move when you do have a complaint or issue, then I think you will like it here. I am not talking about being lied to by one person but by tag-team liars. Office staff and maintenance alike. Office manager in particular.
This may be a lot better than you are experiencing now. If it is a move up and you do not expect too much this could be a place for you. If you expect that you will be delivered what these folks promise you will be disappointed. If you can live with the drug dealers and no security. You are home. Congrats.
I moved in to a filthy apartment. I mean food under the fridge and stove. Plugged drains and an air filter from hell. In the bathroom there was enough hair in the drawers to make a wig. Get this. I said these words to a staff member and was asked if I wanted them to clean again. AGAIN. As if anyone had cleaned.
Overall. Had I known, especially how management manages, I'd never have moved in. Take my review with a grain of salt. But, you should know that I have no official complaints against me and I have logged none.
Still if you live here I won't be your neighbor soon.

Dear RED: in response to the current gate issue, please know that we are doing all that we can to get the gate up and operating again. The issues with the gate have been caused by people continously running into the gate and causing serious damage that is costing the property thousands of dollars in repairs. We hope to have the bid approved by upper management and scheduled no later than next week. Please note that The Oaks Apartments does not gaurantee safety to any person(s) who reside in the community. The gate is NOT a safety feature which you are aware, for people can drive in right behind you. The access that you are speaking of does not exist. The office of The Oaks does not have a code but if someone wishes to contact the office they can enter 4 zeros, however as instructed there must be a connection on the other end in order to gain access into the community. After 6:00 p.m. each night, our phones are NOT answered therefore no one can gain entrance into the community through the office. We are open during business hours for prospective resident(s) to gain entrance to obtain information about our community. We apologize if you do not feel we have dealt with your issues in the appropriate manner and ensure that if given the opportunity these issues can be rectified. This is a website where people can vent their frustrations and we wish to respond to each and every one to ensure that you are aware of our open door policy. We try to make everyone happy to call The Oaks Home but we do know that we cannot always please each and every person as much as we wish we could. The noise issues that you speak of, please know that we have 2 onsite courtesy officer's that are CMPD officer's that can and will respond to any issues regarding the well being of the community and it's occupants. Just contact the office and the after hour services for "Courtesy" will be prompted. Please know that each person that applies here @ The Oaks must qualify the same as you did when you applied. We have not changed our criteria and we do background checks on every person of legal age. Again, if you feel there is sucpicous activity occuring on the property, the courtesy officer's are here to respond and to ivestigate those concerns. The office should be made aware as well and to the best our knowledge we have not been informed of the concern you speak of. If you feel you have been misinformed feel free to contact our corporate office and the Regional Property Manager will more than happy to look into this for you as well. Thank you, The Oaks Apartments Property Manager

im with you buddy, call the "courtesy" number so you get charged for trying to make yourself at peace. i love dogs, however do not have one anymore due to not having the time to stay at home. theres plenty of people in the oaks who need to train their dogs to stop barking all hours of the night as well as have some decency for others who dont live the lifestyle of staying up all hours of the night and fighting with roomates right above your bedroom to where you feel like your in an earthquake. noise ordinances dont exist, as everyone that has speakers in their car seems to drive by, park and leave their loud annoying music playing. then the pressure washer comes through at no other than 6 30 in the morning, and as you are standing near the front door, you get wet because waters coming through. call management and never get a response. security system doesnt work. the box is a ball of wires in my closet, where youre suppose to put personal belongings, however cant feel safe doing so since youre afraid there may be a fire. i ahvent lived here very long and cant say i was happy more than a few days. if the gate is so expensive to fix, why not install a camera o you know who the problem is and stop wasting money replacing "parts". i testify to the gate code of 0's because i ahve used it before. and it does work in the middle of the night. they say the pools open, you go down and some guy youve never met comes out and somehow knows you and says to get out of the pool.
