Great Place to Live

I have been a resident now for nearly three years. When I first moved in it was a Laramar community. To be honest, I have seen a major decline since it was purchased by a new company. Despite various rumors, I honestly miss the old management. However, this was not a bad living experience overall.
I moved in 2006 with a friend, and we were immediately sold on a larger two bedroom apartment. It was beautifully laid out, and newly carpeted. The apartment I currently lease was a slight let down in comparison with poorly cleaned carpets, and marks on the walls. The move was necessary, so I took what was offered at the time, and I have been happy with the place for the last two years.
There are washer & dryer units in the apartments, and microwaves. It is close to the light rail, and there are two shopping centers within a 2 mile distance.
I have seen many large breed dogs being walked by their owners so I'm guessing there are no longer restrictions on breed and weight. I have 2 cats, and I was allowed to pay a decreased pet fee, and pro-rate it during my first lease term.
The buildings are newer and nice looking in comparison to the surrounding apartments. The fence is useless against even the younger children in the neighboring communities. The front gates, and pedestrian door are often out of service and standing open. The new staff are reasonable, but I no longer feel at home here.
Recently I received a notice that my lease would be up, and they proposed a $119 rent increase for a 13 month lease. The other option was to take a $219 increase for a month to month lease. I am currently renting the 715 sq ft apartment, with a slight concession from the previous market rate. When I first moved in at the Reserve I was paying $850 for the largest 2 bedroom they offered so it does not make sense to me to pay the same amount of money for an apartment which is significantly smaller.
It has been said that the area is growing, and changes like this can be expected all over South Charlotte since the light rail has been finished, and the city expands. I can respect this but still decline to sign another lease term. Much of the charm that I enjoyed previously has long since rubbed off, and I am happy to seek lodging elsewhere.
