Do not move here! I moved in May of 2005, and everything seemed okay for the first 4 or 5 monthsâthere were some small annoyances, such as always being told the gates would work âtomorrowâ, and having to call the leasing office multiple times before someone would come spray for bugs (and cockroaches were a problem, even though I thoroughly cleaned the apartment weekly and only 2 people lived there). But in January I went out of town for a weekend to come back and find out someone had hit my car. Hit it so hard it was thrown up onto the curb so it was obviously a problem, but no one had contacted the police/leasing office. When confronting the leasing office, I was told a courtesy officer lived right beside where my car was hit. But didnât see anything' A month later my apartment was broken into, on the 3rd floor no less. The door was simply kicked in. The same day, a neighbor on the first floor had their door kicked in as well. The police officer informed me I had done all I could do, and it was the property management who had failed to provide the apartment with secure doors. Upon calling the leasing office to fix the door, a maintenance man showed up and tried to NAIL THE BUSTED DOOR BACK TOGETHER. I asked him if it was temporary, and was told noâI complained to the office, and it was fixed with new materials. I also asked them to install a deadbolt that would lock from the outside and longer screws in the frame so someone would have to do a little more than give the door a kick to break in. They did comply, and when I asked why this wasnât done before, I was met with blank stares. By the wayâseveral days before the break-in I came home to fine someone had tracked mud in the apartment and made a mess in the kitchen. When I called the office to see if a maintenance man had been in I was told no. But I thought the 2 were very large coincidences. Several days after the break-in I was contacted by a local news station to see if I would tell my story on cameraâapparently according to the detective I talked with, there had been 20 break-ins in January alone. Several assaults, several harassment charges, and several hit and run. These arenât exaggerations; these are taken from police reports. Waterford Lakes let me out of my lease upon asking after this occurred. It is no surprise me why. I also spoke with several neighbors who were getting out of their lease as well. Just be aware if you are thinking of moving here. Appearances are very deceiving.
