I signed a 6 month lease here out of desperation because there was absolutely nothing else available at the time. I was very nervous as the place has a horrible reputation in area, earning names like Oak Hell and Oak Thrill from the local police. I have to say that I didn't have any trouble with noise or crime during my stay there. I will say that this place is very dirty and very moldy so if you have allergies stay away, there is black mold growing everywhere. The staff actually was very helpful (especially Elvin the maintenence guy), that is until the end when it came time to get my security deposit back. All of a sudden I was made into the bad guy. I had given my 30 day notice face to face with the property manager, left the apartment looking better than when I moved in, was a model tenant for my entire stay, payed rent on time every month, never caused a bit of trouble, and then recieved a notice that I owed for the next months rent. I tried to talk to her in a very professional manner and resolve the problem, she became belligerent and evasive immediately. She said that I was supposed to have given my notice in writing as per the lease, but I never recieved a lease, (which by law I was supposed to), so I had nothing to refer to. Technically she did have a point, but with previous landlords I was always such a great tenant that if I told them I was leaving in 30 days, I was leaving in 30 days, no one has ever tried to hold me to the (in writing) thing, it was just a given. Maybe not returning security deposits and trying to squeeze more money out of great tenants is standard operating procedure at this place, maybe she just forgot that I had stood face to face with her a month before and given my notice and just didn't want to look stupid to her bosses or herself, who knows. This business conducts itself in a very shady and unprofessional manner, given the reputation and history of this place I would strongly recommend finding something else, unless you are desparate, like I was, in this case insist on a 6 month lease, get something on the back building facing the woods, and get out as fast as you can. I do want to say thank you to Elvin for being very helpful and courteous during my stay, he is the only thing this place has going for it.
