I was a resident for several years, as were several other student friends of mine, and I decided to write in to share some of our collective experiences. First, as has been mentioned, there absolutely are issues with the management that took over the complex. Let me distinguish between management and maintenance, as the last poster is confused as to the difference. No one has a complaint with maintenance staff - they are around after hours and on weekends and are generally responsive and helpful. They, however, not management, installed the last poster's a/c units.

The problems with Alexan's management arise when you need more than maintenance's assistance. Read, for example, the caveat emptor or skip it posts. In addition to these issues, I personally dealt with management when I sought to extend my lease by a few months while I studied for the bar and was told that doing so would cost me nearly double rent per month. While I understand that the market and new management policies may well have required this, it is the way they treated me - a long time resident who had had no real problems in the past - that still resonates. There may be "two sides" to my story as well, but the fact remains that I was a paying customer, and management is in the customer service business. The woman I dealt with was rude, defensive, and unwilling to compromise. I ultimately moved out, and after all of that, my apartment was vacant over the summer! I was also charged, like an earlier poster, for my cheap carpeting despite living there for three years. They also continued to accept packages addressed to me, which I understand may have been unavoidable, but when I called to see whether they were there I was told that my packages are not their responsibility. I never found the packages, some important bar materials.

I don't recommend Alexan not because of their lease extension or package retention policies - it's the unforgiving nature of the staff when you hope for some humanity (how hard is it to search for my name on my bar materials') that makes the place undesirable.

Also, I know this isn't as much a problem anymore, but I had a unit that was close to the construction and for a year was woken up by the early morning drilling - even on weekends. Now that they've got twice as many units to fill, management should stop being defensive and do a quick attitude check so they don't lose money on their investment.

PS, I don't know what last poster was looking at, but there are five recommendations for the complex below, a few completely anonymous and only one offering an email.
