Just don't do it!!! ...no, really...don't

I don't know where to start. This was the worst apartment experience that I ever had. Let me start by saying this. When I initially moved in everything was fine. Then one week later, this place became a hell hole. On my facade of the building is eight apartment units. After one year, none of the original residents, including myself, remained on my side of the building. In fact, many of the "well-to-do", honest, decent people were replaced by ghetto criminals.

The number one concern at this place is security. First, let me tell you that I played Division I football and I grew up in a rough neighborhood -- and I felt unsafe here! The Atrium is a "nice" community in the middle of a wasteland. Drive around and you will see. Down the street is Oxford Commons public housing where many shootings and lots of violence occurs. They have tried to erect a fence with gate to keep people out but the gate worked only two of the twelve months I was there. They will tell you they have security on the grounds...translation=there are two cops staying here. At first, people from the surrounding neighborhoods would come in a loiter. Then, they started moving in to the apartments. Some two bedrooms apts had three and four families living there. Needless to say, the parking disappeared and their ghetto friends hung around a lot. These guys, who don't live here, will whistle at any girl. In fact, my girlfriend would never wear anything remotely revealing because she would get heckled and I didn't want to get into a fight.

Continuing with safety, apparently people ride the DATA bus and breakin to cars and apts here and then ride the DATA bus for their getaway. Also there is path from Oxford Commons that cuts between the Atrium and the retirement home. People do drugs there and who knows what. I have also heard gunshots there on numerous occassions.

Now that safety is out of the way, let me talk about the rest. The apts are okay looking. They are actually pretty decent, but beware of any maintanence concerns. My cabinet door and an upper vent cover were broken when i moved in. They fixed it 10 months later! In fact, they didn't come to fix it until the vent cover fell and hit my girlfriend in the head. The carpet started to come up after four months -- a shotty job of laying carpet. They never fixed it. One time I was in the shower and they wanted to install carbon monoxide detectors. I walked out of my shower naked and this guy was standing in my apt. I asked him to leave and he refused and continued to install the detector. OH yeah, and I still don't know where my big bottle of Absolute Vodka went.

The management is nice, but beware. They are like wolves in sheep clothing. They are nice but they will look for ways to get you on technicalities. They also lie. My neighbors tried to warn me about this place and everytime I confronted the management, they said my neighbors were just disguntled psychos.

I say to you as they said to me, STAY AWAY!! If safety is remotely a concern and you don't like ghetto neighbors, please keep moving. I wouldn't live here if they gave me 6 months free rent.
