Don't Make the Same Bad Decision We Did.

This place is miserable. As you drive up, it looks nice, but take a more careful look. Look at the cars--crap cars, nice rims--already a sign of trouble. The complex backs up to government housing (on MULTIPLE occasions I heard gunshots which could have been coming from there or the Atrium residents--who knows) and the police are always cruising around, usually in pursuit of someone.
When we moved in, the apartment was not clean at all. You couldn't walk in your barefeet. Nothing was cleaned out and the countertop was a mess. The dishwasher did not work and was rusted. The window blinds were broken, doorknobs were broken, everything, it seems, was broken. And yet we were told that the apartment manager, Robyn (who has since either quit or been fired) had checked the apartment.
Over the course of the 1.5 years we were there, the neighborhood went from terrible to unimaginable--culminating in two armed robberies in one week. I was told that it is not the responsiblity of the property manager to inform the residents of what is going on in the complex (Robyn again). I was also told that it was the residents' responsibility to watch for the people who were continually ramming the gates making them inoperable. No, it is not.
For months, there was an abandoned car in front of my building and it was not removed until I called the police and told them what was happening. Also, let's not mention the abandoned refrigerator or my hotwater heater that stayed under my steps for nearly two months.
Then, there was my downstairs neighbor who was a drug addict. He asked my husband to take him to get drugs. He stood under my bedroom window one night and "rapped" in two different voices. I was told that he has a disability and it is against the law to kick a disabled person out of an apartment. I think that the management was again misguided. He was doing illegal drugs...It doesn't matter who you are, it's still illegal.
I was continually lied to and talked down to. Finally, I had to leave because the situation was ridiculous. Luckily for me, Robyn was no longer there and the replacements understood where I was coming from and let me break my lease.
Unless you are desperate or don't value your life or belongings, spare yourself the heartache and find a better place. The deals are lucrative, but you get what you pay for.
