I knew some people who lived in Beech Lake before moving here myself. A few of them have great apartments where nothing ever breaks and the cheap rent makes the place a bargain.
I have an utterly rundown unit. Every appliance with the exception of the refrigerator has broken. The closet doors routinely crack and fall off the sliding rails. Insulation is poor so you'll be facing sky high heating bills in the winter, that is, if your heat actually works. The same goes for the AC in the summer. Plumbing problems abound and worst of all, there are "critters" everywhere--squirrels in the ceiling, spiders all over the bathroom, wasps on my balcony, and sometimes there is even something (who knows what)banging around in the fireplace.
The neglect extends to the common areas as well. The pool here is perpetually closed and the gate on one side of the complex is perpetually broken. There are also potholes everywhere inside the complex.
The leasing office which is much improved over last year's staff (the complex was purchased by a different management company in 2005)is still not always on top of things. You often have to lodge complaints 2 or 3 times before anything is ever fixed.
The bottom line is that Beech Lake is an old complex which has not been well maintained. If you luck out and get a nice unit with working appliances, you are getting a good deal. The rest of you will suffer.
