Hidden Fees and BAD Management

A few good things before we get into the awful part of this complex:
Usable floorplans.Good parking.Water and Sewage included. Affordable rent, but be aware that your rent price is given as a "concession" so that if you are ever late on a rent payment they can jack up your rent for the rest of your lease terms. Prompt maintainence response times

The BAD:
The condition of my apartment was awful when I moved in. The cabinets didn't close. There were marks all over the walls, even some dry wall missing exposing rusty screws. Part of my balcony was not painted. Even worse, my dishwasher and bathroom sink leaked. Furthermore, my refrigerator had wires hanging down from the bulb and rocked b/c one foot wasn't level (ie a safety hazard). Like other posters have metioned, they did a complete repipe of the complex. I was only given 2 days notice, which is absurd. I was supposed to receive a $35 application refund because I am a grad student, which I had to fight tooth and nail to receive. Additionally, because my power was not turned on the exact day my lease started (Duke power was unable to turn it on until 2 days later, despite the fact that I contacted them over a week ahead of time), I was charged a $25 late penalty in addition to over charge on the electricity. When I complained, I was chastised for not having my power turned on in time. I give up. The gates never work and the lighting around the complex is bad. My parking lot is very dark. I don't have very high expectations of apartment complexes or management, but this is ridiculous. They give you this sense that they care and are willing to work with you, and then treat you like an idiot and a child. The appliances were also not the ones shown to me in the model, which I specifically asked about when touring. Mine are significantly older. My next door neighbor, however, got new ones before moving in. Supposedly my representative did a complete walk through, but she must have been blind. Seriously! There were so many problems upon move in. And it definitely isnt worth the hassle. The work-out room is a joke. Its dirty and gross and looks like there is mold growing in the vents. I'm sure other places are worse, but the management here is bad and that is enough to make me move when my lease is up.
