Deerfield is in a great location (near Duke, in the middle of Duke Forest), but we can't recommend it because of security issues.
Apparently, this area is prone to car break-ins.
Despite several complaints, nothing has been done by management to make things safer through more extensive lighting or by cropping some of the vegetation that serves as potential hiding places (as was recommended by Durham P.D.).
Before signing a contract, please walk through the parking lot at night: there are numerous areas that are pitch black.
So far, at least, criminal activity has stuck with car thefts and break-ins, but because of the environment, I wouldn't be surprised if the crooks move up to apartment break ins or to muggings.
